Lunch at the G&D – Wednesday 1st October 2025 Had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch at this pub, despite arriving during what can only be described as an ale apocalypse. The taps had seen action—no idea what the beer tasted like, but judging by the empty barrels, it was popular. The food, however, was spot-on: a well-balanced menu with a specials board that actually felt special (see image for proof). Expect to spend around £20–30 per person for a main and a drink—unless your drink is Dom Pérignon, in which case you’re in the wrong pub. Service was attentive, patient, and impressively unflappable. This deserves special mention because I was hosting a family ensemble aged 28, 85, 95, 95, and 98. The G&D team wisely tucked us behind a pillar at a table for six, where we could shout across generations without disturbing the peace—or the soup course—of other diners. Atmosphere lost a star, not for lack of charm, but because the beautiful old building has been opened out into multiple dining areas. I get it—it’s the modern way to keep pubs thriving—but part of me missed the creaky intimacy of a single snug. Huge thanks to the G&D team for making a potentially chaotic lunch feel like a well-rehearsed matinee. Bravo.

Four visited for an evening meal and we were very impressed by the food and service. The dishes were reasonably priced and the quantities were generous. We were well taken care of by the young waitresses who attentive and charming. Certainly we hope to return; in fact I think we have found a gem!

Really lovely little pub with a decent car park, we only popped in on a hot day for a quick cold drink… the lovely staff did a Bloody Mary for me ! - ended up being recommended the ribs which were … well, just look at the picture ! I don’t do many reviews but this gaff deserves it.

Food was very good. The Sunday roast was tasty, and cooled to our likling. Atmosphere friendly, and service was great. Only downside was that we had to wait 40 minutes over our booked table time for the other diners to finish their drinks.

Beautiful pub and village. Food was fine but not special,2 beef roasts were apparently OK but the nut roast gravy I had was boring and over salty. Broccoli and carrots were slightly overcooked but the cabbage and cauliflower were good. Whitebait was nicely cooked but a small portion for £7.95 ( yesterday in a pub near ramsgate we had 3 times the amount of whitebait for £3.95 & was really tasty!) Kids burger was standard as we're nuggets. Staff were excellent, really friendly and efficient.

Was the first time here and no way we were disappointed . From the moment we came through the door to a very warm welcome, until we left the service, was great, the food amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection and presented very well. We will definitely be going back. We booked before hand and that turned out to be a very good idea..

Beautiful pub with the loveliest team of young staff. Although one of the staff had only been with George and Dragon for 3 shifts, she made every effort to help us out and bring us what we needed. We were also so impressed with the food. We each ordered a cappuccino to start and had the fish and chips. The fish and chips were the best I have ever had! So fresh and battered lightly without any extra grease. We can't wait to come again - thank you for the lovely experience.

We were just passing by on our way home and fancied a bite to eat. Bearing in mind it was a Sunday afternoon we weren't sure what to expect as we hadn't booked a table. Luckily it was late enough in the afternoon that there was a couple of tables empty and we were able order a roast dinner each. The service was excellent right from the start, we didn't have to wait long for our drinks or our mains. The food was exquisite, the beef perfectly cooked (tender and succulent), veg perfectly steamed and delicious roast potatoes. Sadly the cauliflower cheese had run out (due to our late arrival), but the staff were happy to substitute this for a few extra potatoes at our request. Desserts were also ordered - the Apple & Strawberry Crumble is particularly exceptional. If you're in the area, this is the place to eat. We'll be back!
