My family and I have been eating here for decades and there have been some changes over the years, but it's always worth a visit. The ruskie pierogi are the best in town - I always pick up some frozen pierogi from the little sister Cafe Maja downstairs - and the home made gateaux are genuinely award-winning. Yesterday I had a flavourful rosol (chicken broth) to start, followed by pork loin in a wild mushroom sauce. I could smell the wild mushrooms as the plate was brought to the table, and although I'm not a great fan of kopytka (polish gnocchi) the ones I had were delicious; perfect for mopping up the creamy sauce that accompanied a big hunk of very tender pork loin. A good cappuccino accompanied a delicious and large slice of coffee and walnut tort (gateau). Yep there are a few niggles - the website could do with being sorted out so it took bookings - but hiccups are dealt with promptly and professionally. The staff work really hard to get things right, Lowiczanka is deservedly still one of the best and cheapest places to get good Polish food in London.

We attended the St Andrew’s Eve party at Łowiczanka Restaurant in POSK Hammersmith on Saturday, 29.11.2025, with a group of friends. The event was prepaid at £49 per person, so we were expecting a well-organised evening. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from the moment we were seated. After receiving the drinks menu, we immediately noticed how overpriced the items were. A bottle of Absolut Vodka was listed at £79, which is far above what you would normally expect to pay in a venue of this type (around £60).Despite the inflated prices, we ordered the vodka along with soft drinks. Only after paying we did realise that a 12.5% service charge had been automatically added. I politely asked a staff member to remove it, as service charges are optional. She explained that she needed to speak with the manager. A few minutes later, a woman who appeared to be the restaurant manager approached our table. She did not introduce herself, did not ask why we wanted the service charge removed, and immediately refused. I explained again that the menu was overpriced and that we would be serving our own drinks at the table. Her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional, and she raised her voice while telling us she might remove it at the end of the night. When I asked why she could not do it immediately, she offered no explanation. Her body language and facial expression made it very clear that she had no interest in resolving the matter politely. We returned to our table, and shortly afterwards she came back, dropped the receipt in front of me with the words “here is your refund,” and walked away abruptly. The manner in which she handled the situation was completely unacceptable. When our starters arrived, we were surprised to learn that there was no option to choose dishes, despite the printed menu listing two starters, three mains, and two desserts. We were simply told, “something happened in the kitchen and there will be no choice; everyone will have the same dishes.” This was extremely unprofessional for a prepaid event. The food itself was very average and had no flavour. The dessert was similarly unimpressive. On a positive note, the atmosphere created by the live music from the Malina Band was excellent, and many guests seemed to enjoy that part of the evening. Additionally, our waiter was friendly, attentive, and professional—one of the very few positive aspects of the night. The venue, however, feels old and in need of renovation. The toilets were clean, but the overall environment did not match the prices being charged. Overall, the event was poorly managed, the prices were unnecessarily high, the menu was not delivered as advertised, and the interaction with the manager left a particularly negative impression. Unfortunately, based on this experience, we will not be returning to Łowiczanka Restaurant.

Sadly, the prices have gone up and the quality of the food has gone really down. The pierogi were limp and tasteless, and the tartare was salty, watery and unpleasant. The duck was passable. Service was fine and the atmosphere unchanged, but I won't be going back in a hurry.

This place has so much potential, it’s such a shame that the service is poor and rude, the food is poor too and the decor is outdated. The placki were too oily (this was easily solved by patting the oil off with kitchen roll after frying). The waitress had an attitude about it and reluctantly offered for the kitchen to make something else. Waited about 45 minutes for the food to come. Ridiculous! Other people were served before us and they had ordered after us.

I am so disappointed that a very good restaurant which I have been going to for many years has had a change of management. It now has poor service, the ambience has been ruined with some bright overhead recessed downlights. The lovely soft-glow side lights on the walls are still there but for some reason were turned off. I attended a group meal for which the order was placed in advance and we paid for it before eating. I was surprised to also have to buy drinks at the bar and bring them back to the table. Apparently this was due to a lack of waiting staff. A number of us had to wait ages for our meals and when they arrived they were the wrong items because they waiting staff didn't really know who had ordered what. When my meal finally arrived after a mix up it was dried out and tasteless. Which was a shame as someone had put a lot of thought into the presentation on the plate. It was one of those evenings where you end up drunk before you have started eating. Half the restaurant was empty as in the floor was empty. I'm guessing the tables were moved to the alcove for our group. There was a curtain hanging in the middle to separate the empty floor area from diners. The music was good as it has always been on a saturday night but there was a general lack of ambience and a large area of unused space. The staff were struggling, I think there may have been only 3 people serving (two waiting staff and a manager). I have been told there were arguments heard from the kitchen. I really hope the management read this as constructive feedback and make some improvements. This used to be a fabulous restaurant with fantastic food and a great menu. I'm not sure whether it has been badly decorated or whether they are in the middle of redecorating. It's a great shame because it has so much potential. I hope that they find the help they need to manage it properly and bring it back it's original quality and feel good vibes.

I would like to raise complaint regarding my experience at the Lowiczanka. I had booked a buffet for 15 people (6 children) on 24.06.2022 for a meal after a memorial service for my uncle. The service that I had received was poor, in specific, this relates to an older lady that was on duty that evening. She was utterly rude and disrespectful. She had no sympathy towards my families situation. Towards the end she was having an argument with me and to calm the lady down, one of the people that attended my meal paid her £20 to clam down. Moreover, the food was poor quality and was not worth the money paid; there was no juice available, the quantity of food was low, the food was cold and it did not taste nice. I have spent a fortune for poor food and poor customer service. This was my first and last appearance at the restaurant. Tremendously disappointed.
