Went in on a Monday lunchtime. Very quiet. Service was good, if a little slow for food to come out (presumably as only one chef on). All food was excellent and would definitely go back. Would be nice if some of the impressive fireplaces had a roaring fire going, although not sure if they are functional

I know 5 stars is best of the best and whilst this is not a Michelin starred eatery, or award winning pub, it is awesome. Car parking is free if you are a patron of the pub, just pop your reg in on the tablet on the bar and bosh, free parking. I went twice in the week and planning on going again next week, unfortunately I am only in Manchester for another week otherwise it would be frequented often. The menu had only launched on the first occasion but it was varied, jad some local produce on and there is a pie's special board there too. Wr didn't book a table but I would actually suggest you do as it was busy on both occasions we went. Food was lovely, I got Fish and Chips, colleague had steak pie (Look up Desperate Dan pie) and other colleague had vegetable cottage pie and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. Next visit my colleague had Fish and Chips because mine looked so good earlier, I had a perfectly cooked, Medium Rare Rump steak and third colleague (different one) had steak pie and the size did not disappoint again. Drinks were well priced, service was "Chefs Kiss", the staff were all magnificent, polite, friendly, enjoyed a joke and were part of the reason why we went back, and will be back again next week. All in all, fabulous venue, steeped in 500 years of history.

Very historic pub - atmospheric interior very much of the period. Lovely food and drinks - excellent service with plenty of friendly staff. Highly recommended. Oh and not expensive at all.

Great atmosphere, where history is tangible. Pub is worth a visit and the food, particularly the carvery, is delicious. Try the raspberry and strawberry sundae. Best ever. Great entertainment laid on some evenings. Excellent venue for birthday parties.

Warm and welcoming, plenty of space to move around with plenty of seating. Staff are attentive, kind and helpful. The food was delicious -cooked perfectly to my liking and the portion sizes were decent too. I Highly recommend.

Nice place to eat and drink. JW Lee's pub with a real ale offering. Only 1 real ale was available when I visited although it was January and it looks like they had their winter ale on over Christmas from the posters about. It was a little chilly when we arrived as the heating had only just been put on but it soon warmed up and in fairness we were first through the door on opening! The traditional fireplaces are in fact gas and not wood or coal which is a shame but they make a nice focal point in each room. The food menu is traditional pub food, served quickly and was very tasty and reasonably priced. Worth taking your mother out for lunch!

Have been here on numerous occasions for nights out, lunch with friends, a wedding and funerals. They consistently provide good pub grub or if it is an event then they also have a good choice of menus both hot and cold. The pub is always friendly, clean and is full of historical character that will peak your interest and provide good talking points. I gave never felt rushed or uncomfortable in here. There is some pay as you go parking at the back and a very pretty small outdoor seating/standing area.

Amazing pub with a great character and interesting history. The interior design is very impressive, with many of the olden-day elements still there, so you can really see what it used to be like. Customer service was also good, with the staff being attentive to the needs of the guests. We were very satisfied with the quality of the food as well - fresh ingredients, fair and affordable prices, and generous portions. One minor thing that could be changed is that when ordering tea, I think the water should be served in a teapot so you can decide how strong you want the tea, instead of it being brewed by the staff at the bar. Overall if you have time I would recommend visiting this pub.
