   Having lived in various parts of East London, I’ve always thought of this stretch of Mile End Road as “chicken shop mile,” known mostly for deep-fried chicken with a South Asian twist. Sitting quietly among them is Tian Tian, and for the ten years I’ve been around here, it’s always been there too. It feels almost neglectful that after exploring so many of London’s boroughs in search of authentic Chinese food, the place that impressed me most was right on my doorstep. We ordered braised tofu, savoury and rich with a gravy-like flavour that felt surprisingly homely. The hot and sour soup came in a bowl large enough to feed two, thick, balanced and deeply satisfying. The Sichuan crab was brilliantly seasoned and almost soft-shell in parts, which made it exciting to eat. And the tomato and egg stir-fry was a standout- simple, warm, and cooked with real care. Tian Tian clearly serves a local Chinese community. Most of the tables were filled with groups of students and young professionals arriving at different times, greeting each other with smiles and stories before digging in. It’s run by what seems to be a husband-and-wife team: she handles the floor, he’s in the kitchen. The service isn’t polished in a formal way, but it has its own rhythm - fast, sharp and quietly impressive. It’s excellent value for money, and the food speaks for itself. No gimmicks, no branding, just honest cooking that’s full of warmth and flavour. If you’ve walked past Tian Tian before, don’t. Go in, order the tofu and the crab, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner. Conor Bond Best Dinners

   I have been using this restaurant for over ten years. The food is always great and everyone that has come along with me has loved it too. The owners are very friendly and nice. They don’t tolerate idiotic behaviour which may be why some other people’s reviews are negative. I would not go anywhere else - my go to place for eating in the restaurant or takeaway

   already better than expected. Soup and cold dish is really good. using additive for spicy seasoning. Chicken is not as fresh and good as recommended. Service is really good.

   My favourite chinese restaurant in London! The portions are huge and perfect for sharing- its worth visiting with a group of 4+ to try several dishes. The food is flavourful and authentic chinese, the ingredients are great quality too. The menu is big so make sure you have someone who knows what to order, or just show them these pictures! For 5 ,we ordered 5 dishes with rice and drinks for £23 each. Would recommend to everyone, a big difference from chinese restaurants in Chinatown.

   Friendly for the kind of restaurant. Needed to eat quick, we asked, we were served quick. Some dishes were good, some not so much. Large portions. Have reasons to doubt of the quality.

   Found this via Google. Looks unlikely but fantastic. Bit pricey for the area but authentic & scary ingredients with more traditional fayre as well. Large portions so maybe order 3 mains for 4 people

   Loved the food, tasted as proper Chinese authentic which is rare. Staff was friendly and fast. Portions sizes are good. Place is very simple but food makes sure you will return. Definitely recommend their ribs with coffee sauce.
