On the face of it friendly as we walked in - lots of locals. Great Christmas decorations and cosy. Some people eating bit and a fair few drinking. We'd booked a table and had decided on our Menu based on the info online. Apparently no longer do small plates and the waitress showed no empathy at all when stating that. We ended up having soup and a roll as really didn't want a huge meal. My soup was scalding and in spite of care, I burnt my throat. My friend's was cold and all we can think is it was warmed separately and mine had been done twice! We couldn't catch the servers eye so she had to take the soup up to the Bar and ask for it to be heated. As we couldnt have any smaller meals, we had decided soup and a dessert. We chose our dessert and waited about five minutes for the waitress to come back and tell us the dessert we'd chosen wasn't available. Everything else again was so heavy so we left it. Again no empathy shown. I have to say I noted that the staff were in good humour around the Bar and one of them constantly looking at her phone and joking with the others. To get attention we had to grab their eye and call them - they weren't really observing their Customers or their needs. Sorry but very, very disappointing as it was a light goodbye meal with a friend and I was returning home the next day. This was a Friday at 6pm.

I keep trying but they keep lowering the bar. Aweful food, (even their "brand new menu") but the girls who run the bar are absolutely misserable and are happy for you to know that. Eye rolling, contemputus sighing, when you ask for food etc. Burger was so over cooked it was like chewing on a flip flop. £12 for a small, and average looking salt n pepper chips. Pickmere deserves a better pub.

A really lovely pub with very nice beer garden. We enjoyed some food and a drink yesterday in the sun. The only thing that let it down was, the staff bringing the food out, weren't very friendly. Looked like they couldn't really be bothered being there. I asked for some tap water and she said, you'll have to ask at the bar. Wen the food was brought to the table, before I could ask for salt and pepper, she had gone. On removing the plates, she never asked if everything was ok. And as we left to go, she never acknowledged us. It would have been nice to have a quick Thank you, or see you again. Just little things, which would have made a difference

I had the lamb which was very overcooked. Another my our group had the roast and the beef was really grisly. Others in the group had ok meals. So I've bumped it up to 3 stars for that. The service was disappointing... I asked if my wife could go inside 8 minutes before opening time to feed our 3 month old and was turned down. We were then put at a table in a room that was unbearably hot. It was only 21 degrees outside but so uncomfortable inside. I really didn't enjoy the whole experience and three stars is generous. It's such a shame because it's a nice old building with plenty of staff to do a good job they just didn't.

Saturday lunchtime with the pug. Very good menu. Lots to choose from so it took a while. Partner had steak and ale pie and I had ham, egg and chips. All lovely. Huge outside area. Dog friendly. Will be back soon.

Disappointed. The menu was totally different from that on the website. The table, which had been reserved, hadn’t even been wiped over, let alone set or even have salt and pepper on it. A number of items had run out and when our dishes arrived we had to remind the waitress what should have been included as elements were missing. Pity as we’ve had much better experiences with other pubs in this group. Decor is nice as is location and garden, but we won’t be going back.

Food at Christmas was very good, however, chunky chips not cooked long enough, despite asking for them to be cooked properly. My friend had noodles which were very disappointing as they were lacking in flavour. Table was sticky, wine expensive . Staff were lovely and friendly.

I’ve given 3 stars. 2 are for the nice staff and 1 is got the choice and quality of food. Choice from the menu was extremely limited as the menu was due to change the next day apparently. Our prawns in the starter were still frozen when we got them, sent them back, but the Marie Rose sauce was watery because the prawns were still defrosting. The soup chosen by one of our party was powdery and not ‘homemade’ from fresh ingredients. Had steak pie for main because our preferred options weren’t available, this was very salty, bought pastry, or even the whole pie itself was bought in, heated up in a slice so dried up at the edges. Frozen peas and frozen chips. Couldn’t face what pudding might produce, tried for a Cointreau coffee, but hey, no contreau!!! So got the bill and left. We had a voucher for 25% off, if we hadn’t had that we would have been quite vociferous in our disappointment! Won’t be back in a hurry.

We usually go for the Angus burgers (which are great!) But tonight we thought we'd try the duck special. What an excellent dish! Perfectly cooked, well-balanced flavours and delicious vegetable combinations. And such a lovely pub with great atmosphere and friendly staff.

Nice pub ideal for a base to walk around the lovely countryside from. Modern decor and a very nice lunch menu. I had a stilton and banana baguette with chips which certainly was different and would definitely recommend to anyone trying out this pub. The lady serving was really friendly and looked after us well. Will return for sure.
