    Found this little gem by accident. All the cafes in York were overly crowded. This place has small serving area - but we discovered there is some very quiet upstairs seating which clearly wasn’t obvious to many people. Basically had our own room for an hour.

    Absolutely fantastic little cafe right behind York Minster. It has about 3 tables (for two) inside the cafe but quite a good number of tables outside. We had coffee and cake, which were both excellent! Can totally recommend!

    I have been into the Vanilla Cafe a couple of times now and I can safely say it is my favourite place to go for tea/ lunch in all of York. The service was quick and friendly, the coffee delightful and the atmosphere and interior homely in the best way. With a view of the Minster and surrounding buildings it's hard to go wrong. There is also lots of lovely outdoor space to. It's the kind of place any mother or granny would adore. I'll be back soon

    Friendly service, homemade cake in a great location opposite York Minster on very pretty College Street. It has a real village feel around the area with seating indoors and outdoors. I went for Spiced Apple Caramel Cake which was lovely and a pot of tea, I think I paid £5.50 which is very reasonable especially due to its location and great views. Cake tasted lovely and got a couple of cups of tea out of the pot. I sat indoors which is quite intimate but perfect for singles or couples, plus lots of seating outdoors for bigger groups. Would recommend especially if visiting the Minster or Treasurers House which is just round the corner.

    I love this cafe! It is by far my favourite place to sit out with a coffee/cake, all whilst enjoying a spectacular view of the minster! The cupcakes are absolutely divine and the tea room feels so cute and traditional, make sure to swing by!

    This was one of the strangest vibes I’ve ever encountered in a café. When we came in our party of four were told we could sit across two tables downstairs, directly in sight of the counter (which has a gorgeous vintage display box that I imagine looks amazing filled with scones and biscuits but was inexplicably empty). Then we were ignored (not because the two teenage girls who were working were busy but because they were stood in the kitchen area on their phones - I truly don’t think they would have spoken to us without us asking for stuff) until after ten minutes I asked for a menu and was told “no we just have what’s in the window”.. okay! We ordered some drinks that were very nice but overall the atmosphere was just— odd!! Our party agreed that the whole vibe of the place was strange, like it was really putting the staff out to be open and having to deal with people. Weird little place that completely lacks atmosphere despite it’s lovely location.

    Lovely cosy coffee shop! Lots of home made tasty treats and variety of flavoured coffee and teas. Shop owner was also very welcoming. Nice place to rest up and take a break.
