Sorry to say this was poor. Hailed as the best β€œbacon sandwhich in York” but had 2 shrivelled bits of bacon in it, hailed as β€œreal hot chocolate” but was brown water and had no taste. The toilet was vile, a unisex toilet with wee all over the floor and seat. The service was fine, the man was nice, the tea was hot but there are infinitely better places through the gate for the same price. Sorry guys, big miss from us.

Great location, literally in the historic walls with authentic Roman masonry directly below your feet. Service was great. Very quick. Their coffee is good too. Warning, the opening hours may not be reliable. This was the third time I visited, the previous two occasions they were still closed. Independent business, currently being run single handedly. Stopped in for a coffee during our visit to York and ended up staying for lunch. Really tasty paninis, and the two staff members were welcoming and friendly. Clearly a favourite with locals too. Paid less than Β£20 for lunch for 2.

Dropped in for a quick refuel between sightseeing. Excellent bacon sandwich and my family devoured the sausage sandwiches. Friendly service. With a few touches here and there and some housekeeping this would be an even greater spot.

First visit and it was the ideal place to grab a hot drink and a delicious sandwich. Service was prompt, friendly and accommodating. Great little cafe in a historic location.

I came across this delightful little coffee stop on Christmas Day whilst walking the Walls. They had completely sold out of hot snacks so Brownie it was, a superb choice I have to say. The lemon drizzle cake looked fab too. So literally in the bottom of the wall at Bootham Bar, with seating indoors and out during better weather. It was lovely and warm, I had to remove a couple of layers to prevent me melting. There's a small but perfectly adequate toilet available for customers. The staff member/owner was super cheerful and helpful, very capable of engaging with the regulars and visitors. Would definitely visit again.

Really friendly welcoming break from the chaotic bustle of York! Coffee was absolutely beautiful in a comfortable warm environment. Food smelt lovely and the cakes looked gorgeous will definitely try one next time. Interesting glass floor shows the original roman city wall too

Friendly owner, but at over Β£3.00 for a teabag floating in a cup of boiling water, and over Β£2.00 for a small piece of average cake, not the best of experiences for me. The toasties looked great though, so will go at lunch time next time and opt for coffee rather than tea!
