Following a recommendation from a guest house that we were staying at we went for an early evening meal to this friendly pub with a good atmosphere. The Hunters chicken was good but the basket of chips was overcooked. The beef lasagne was hot and smothered in a very deep layer of stringy cheese that was overpowering and extremely difficult to eat. There was a small amount of beef mince and pasta layers in the bottom. The accompanying garlic bread was very thin flat slices of inedible thin wafer type bread (Almost biscuit like). The service from the young man and lady behind the bar was excellent, they couldn't have been more helpful and friendly, just a pity the food was not good. On return to our guest house other people who had also been to the Malt Shovel had exactly the same criticism. Hopefully for future guests the guest house will no longer recommend the Malt Shovel.

Lovely atmosphere. Well worth a visit! Food was exceptional and home made. No waiting to be served as plenty of servers and food came out in good time. Recommend even if your just passing through.

Popped up to have lunch on a weekday. Too long waiting time - up to 30 minutes for a pre-cooked jacket potato. Had to take it away in the end as I was rushed to go back to work. Not great customer service. When I explained that my lunch break was ending and I wanted to leave and asked for a refund, the lady at the bar insisted I wait 2 more minutes - which ended up being 10. Felt like I didn’t have a choice, rather than being allowed to leave. Have been to this place for drinks before and didn’t have problems.

Friendly, clean and the food is excellent. Pizzas were crispy and fresh, fries amazing and the dip with the Hallumi fries was amazing. 10/10 we will be back

Always friendly and welcoming staff. The food is excellent. We have enjoyed the pizzas here and more recently the small plates roast dinner and bangers and mash. These were a perfect size for us, tasty and good value. We hadnt prebooked, we just strolled up and were accomodated. We Highly recommend the Malt Shovel in Menston.

Only five minutes walk to my home it is one of the best pubs in our village. I sat outside on Sunday to watch the Harley Davidson parade. Good live music outdoors to suit all tastes.

Newly refurbished its a lovely clean and spacious place. Has a great beer garden for when the weather is right. The landlord and landlady are welcoming and create a friendly atmosphere. I'm not a local but felt included with the general chat at the bar.
