0 stars don’t even deserve the 1 because of how horrendous the treatment was last night. We arrived with my 12 month old son at 1:30pm and was told he is dehydrated after his bloods were done. I was told at 4pm that he needs a cannula and IV. Hours went by and nobody was calling his name. I went multiple times to the nurses station that beds are not available and that’s all he is waiting for which we didn’t mind. However a staff member walked in with her poorly child skipped the queue went straight in and gave her child a nebuliser. She was seen and was out within 2 hours. Another public member stated someone was on the phone who knew the staff and kept passing the phone to the doctors to get seen first. Eventually he did get prioritised because of this. Favouritism in a hospital is disgusting. All those children’s lives are equally important. After waiting so many hours at 12am I asked what the hold up was again and this time the nurse in charge said she wasn’t even aware he was waiting for a bed (although she answered each time I asked that he has to wait) she then stated the previous doctor didn’t hand over his notes and his file was just sat there for hours. Despicable. My son who needed fluids was forgotten about. We then got taken at 1am to the assessment unit for kids only to be told he may not need an IV and to attempt fluid chart again. At 2:30am the doctor said we could go home and he was preparing our discharge notes, it was now 4am and nobody had come back. At 5:30 a nurse stated we could just stay until the morning as it was late. Eventually at 8am a nurse walked in and said ‘how long’ as she needs the bed for others. Literally animal behaviour no compassion. The night nurse on duty was nice however the communication was minimal. I cannot believe how we got treated it is absolutely sickening to know that we put our children’s lives in their hands. Do Not bring your child here. I hope this gets read and some measures are put into place to stop it happening to others!

To say it’s a children’s ward is frightening. The doctors seem to think it’s fine to leave patients and the parents waiting for hours. I ended up being there for nearly 9 hours last night!!! It could have been more until at 0330am I said enough is enough we need to get sleep so thankfully we will have the CT scan rearranged, but why can’t they do all the tests done in one go for everything instead of staggering them out over 2-3 hours throughout the evening/early hours , you should do all the tests and then let the the patient go home and then ring them when results have come through instead of wasting time. Just lack of common sense and care. What made the evening worse is that the waiting area wasn’t that busy I think I saw about 6 families waiting throughout our 9 hours wait and all those families went through the same as me, it’s an eye sore when they’re allowed to bring in takeaway food because the staff are too slow to attend to the patients. Too many admin staff and not enough doctors.

Oldham Children's Hospital. Amazing!!!! I am so shocked reading the bad reviews. Children are here to be brought back to health..so what if you have to wait 4 hours in a&e or have to wait 20 minutes to be buzzed into the unit. Your priority should be your child. How can anyone complain that the adults don't get fed? This is not a hotel!! How can anyone complain that the staff are lazy when they work 14 hour shifts?(Maybe that person should get a job!!!). Oldham NHS staff we will be forever grateful for the care of our son and all the other children in Oldham that you have cared for. Luckily you are all well educated enough to not take the bad reviews personally. Keep being amazing xx

i went to get some food from the cafe since the dont feed the parent here and got locked out, i pressed the buzzer for around 20 mins before one of the cleaners finally came and let me in. I had left my 3 year old inside she was in tears and i was in tears from worry by the time i managed to get back to her half an hour later. There were staff members all around , i buzzed continuously like a crazy woman but not one bothered to come let me in. Other than this the bed my child was given didnt even work (as in the buttons for rising it etc), and she couldn't lay flat coz of cough and oxygen issues so i had to put multiple cushions and blankets behind her. To end it on a positive note though, the nurses that are good are exceptionally good and the cleaners are even more of warm nature thankfully. But if your assigned a 'cba' nurse then get ready to be isolated and suffer.

My child broke her leg when on holiday abroad. The hospital refused to see her and sent me to the a and e , so they can refer them to the children's unit, because that's their "system". She didn't need an urgent care and already had her cast on, so it was just the case of advice, x ray and taking cast off when the time is right.

Couldn't fault the staff on the children's unit... polite, friendly and so helpful, my child felt safe and they were so helpful when it came to bloods being taken! Couldn't be happier with how they treated myself and my child today!
