Now currently closed as landlord has now moved to Yorkshire and new tenant is yet to be found . We went to "the Navvi" quite regularly. Good choice of beers and snacks, food was OK-ish, parking outside subject to payment unless you registered at the bar. The pub always needed some TLC to be honest what with dead flowers in the hanging baskets etc and a dire need of redecoration , so hopefully a new friendly customer facing landlord or landlady can be found with some "get up and go" and turn the place around.

Four of us had a meal in this charming pub today. Two gammon steaks, one steak and ale pie, and a burger, plus all the trimmings of course. My wife and I, and our friends, eat out often, in all types of establishments. We decided that our meal was one of the best pub meals we have had for a very long time. It was also very good value for money. The gammon steak for example was big, thick, succulent and beautifully cooked. The pie was delicately flavoured and had plenty of steak. Don't think that trimmings in the Navigation Inn are considered less important. They were all delicious additions. The landlord may initially not be a man of many words but he is friendly and an excellent host. The lady who served our meals, asked if everything was OK and cleared the table was friendly, talkative and smiley. All in all, the Navigation Inn is a pub that you really should visit when you're in the area and want to have a wonderful meal and a good time. By the way, we are not local so this review is completely objective.

We have just returned from our trip to the Peaks where we were visiting family who have just welcomed a baby. We stayed in the near by Navigation inn and found it comfortable and welcoming. There was a small mix up when booking due to our daughter being 16 and this altering the cost of the family room however we were contacted to discuss this before arriving so we made alternative arrangements for her to stay with family. The rooms are slightly cold but this is due to the building being old and the bedding was adequate to keep us warm at night. We found everyone including locals to be friendly and we would stay again in the future.

Great location. Friendly greetings from barge owners, cyclists and walkers along the canal path into Whaley Bridge and New Mills. The views were spectacular even on a dull day. The Navigation Inn was welcoming, and dog friendly, but best if you keep them off the seating as the path can be muddy. The landlord looked after the beer well and there was plenty of choice. We both had the pie of the day and we're very happy with our choice. Lots of meat and super chips and the cauliflower and carrots were cooked to perfection. The gravy was superb ***** 5 stars. Our young waitress was very friendly and polite and overall the evening was a lovely experience. On our second night I had Bali chicken which again contained lots of meat with stir fried veg in a sweet sticky sauce, and my husband had fish and chips. Again the beer was good. If you enjoy walking or cycling while looking at gorgeous scenery then this is definitely worth a stay although we were in our motorhome. It's free to stay if you inform the landlord if your vehicle reg and go in the pub for a few drinks or a meal. Believe me it's worth it.

Good food, reasonably priced. The staff (young waitresses) were super, polite and attentive and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves until leaving were the owner I assume a man in grey sweater was behind bar berated a young worker, uncalled for over the top and made us feel very uncomfortable...sadly this had to happen not professional.

We had a lovely walk along the canal and just when we wanted a drink and a snack found the Navigation. Wonderful pub in a great location with an excellent selection of beers and food. Strongly recommend!

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Navigation Inn. Great food and choice of cask ales. Located a short walk along canal path to Whaley Bridge, and 3 miles along canal path to New Mills. Recommend lamb shank and beef hot pot with extra chunky fries which we had (see photos) ..No need for chips on the way home after that. Very warm and cosy traditional friendly atmosphere with low ceilings. Choice of 4 cask ales, including Timothy Taylor..See photos. B&B :- Four poster room very nice with new spacious ensuit shower. Stairs and landing work in progress re decorating but this didn't change our enjoyment in the slightest :) Breakfast amazing with all the usual choices cooked really well and any variation in menu not to much trouble. Will definitely return.

Visited onChristmas Eve afternoon, although it was busy we didn’t have to wait long for food. The Cheese wedge is just to die for, the chips are great too. Lovely atmosphere. A perfect Christmas Eve.

Called in for late lunch on Thursday and couldn't have wished for a warmer welcome. Great choice of menu and specials board which included several meals under a tenner! We picked the homemade steak pie and the beef hotpot both at £9.50,a cosy table with views over the canal and service with a smile, what more could you wish for! Both meals were absolutely delicious and genuinely home made on the premises. The choice of desserts was really extensive and imaginative ,again very reasonably priced with many under a fiver. Sadly today we couldn't fit on in but we are looking forward to returning very soon!
