We were staying in York for the weekend. Called in on chance on Friday without a booking and they managed to fit us in. Liked it so much that we booked for Saturday night. Great food, prompt service. All freshly prepared. Good selection of drinks. Very old pub with great character and atmosphere

This is our 'go to' pub every time we visit York. The food has always been fantastic and is great value for money. Staff are friendly and will do what they can to accommodate you. Always seems to be busy so I would definitely recommend booking. All in all, a great pub with great food.

Cosy and lovely pub with plenty of drinkers propping up the bar as well as all the tables filled with people happily enjoying their meals. We found the customers to be more welcoming than the lady behind the bar unfortunately and the fact you have to order your food at the bar and also any extra drinks etc you’d like during your meal wasn’t great considering how busy it was around the bar and a mission just to get served. Food was good and tasted freshly made.

Went here last night with my family. The place was full when we arrived and there was a great buzz about the place. The staff were attentive and helpful. The food was plentiful, of excellent quality and well priced for what it is (i.e. much better than most of what we have elsewhere). Dog friendly too. We had a lovely time and I will certainly be returning.

Food was amazing, service was very good. The bar itself is very rustic and traditional, which isn't my kind of thing. It's very popular too, so noisy and quite cramped when trying to move around on a Saturday evening. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for a good pub meal. Particularly if you're able to visit during the quieter hours.

I can't rate this place highly enough. Visited on the 4th October. As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted with a very warm welcome. They have a very good selection of food and drinks to choose from. The pub was very busy with all tables either busy or reserved. After a quick chat with the bar staff they managed to sort us a table. They also managed to sort out a couple of tables for the rest of the group who were joining later in the evening. Our whole group were extremely impressed (and grateful) that even though you were fully booked you managed to sort this for us. Great work and great pub.
