Saw lots of bad reviews for this place and I'll be honest I got a little nervous. However... We loved it! It is near bars so noise can be heard, however it didn't disrupt our sleep and really was a non issue! It's bang in the city centre and was a great find. Loved staying here and would stay again. ☺️

This one of the worst hotels I have never still in. The noise is so much worse than they ever claim it to be. You can hear people clearly from the club downstairs and do not inform you about how bad that it’s . It’s genuinely horrific and impossible to sleep in even with the air plug they provide you . The Info sheet states that says that the club closes at 11 pm but it’s actually open until 2 am. You hear people screaming and shouting. Also the room must have a lot of dust or something in because It caused my partner to have a severe asthma attack and we just had to check out early. The pictures make the hotel look so much nicer than it it’s and the hall way going up it is incredibly questionable spray paint that looks very unprofessional and unwelcoming when you enter. A complete waste of money we paid 420 and ended up checking out early trust us when we say it’s worth paying a bit extra for somewhere else

Small room but it is nice inside equipped with modern amenities as needed and its own modern bathroom. They even were so kind enough to handle my laundry for me when I was in a pinch! Great service and they were very kind and helpful.

The noise from the clubs are on another level it’s like you’re in the night club, at 3.30 the music stopped and because the windows are single glazed you hear everybody outside once they have gone glass bottles start getting emptied into the bins then at 6.50 a lorry turns up and start emptying bins with the bottles in, the ear plugs they give you wasn’t good enough , if your going out clubbing then location is great

Amazing Location but it is LOUD. They do provide earplugs which is amazing, the room is great and they also let you store your bags the next day! I knew that it would be noisy when I made the booking so I am not complaining but just a heads up! The location is amazing, everything is under 10 mins away. I was here on a Thursday night and the live music was playing until 2am. The hosts provide earplugs so I used that and slept just fine, but again, it is quite noisy (you can hear people chatting on the street). If you don’t mind the noise, go for it!

The room (6) was really spacious and comfortable and we had 2 wet rooms which was great. The staff we met were lovely and super helpful. There are 2 kitchens that can be used and complimentary tea and coffee and milk etc. The Fort is in a fantastic location in the middle of the city but being above 2 bars/restaurants means that the noise was horrendous. Music stopped in the early hours but then there is the noise of everyone leaving and then the bins being emptied at 7am! So despite wearing the earplugs that are supplied it was not a good sleep on either night. Perhaps the rooms not right above the street are not noisy and with hindsight we should have asked to be moved. So if you are booking and you don't plan to be out until 3am and you don't want to be woken constantly then make sure you are not in room 6.

Room is massive, tons of character, 2 full bathrooms (wet rooms) extremely comfortable, nice and clean. Complementary tea/coffee/sugar and fresh milk no less! We will 100000% be staying here again.

I’m only giving this 2 stars because the actual apartment was pretty nice. Decent kitchen, warm shower, all the basics you would imagine. It’s also in a great location - 6 minute walk from anywhere you’d want to go in York. I stayed here three nights. Saturday was insanely noisy, but I guess that’s not unexpected for a place within the bar district (didn’t know that when I booked it, my mistake). Loud music thumped until 3am and then trash pick up woke me up around 7am. Sunday night was okay. Loud music was still playing but I managed to go to sleep at midnight. Got woken up the next morning by keg deliveries below me at 7am - they stopped around 7:30. Monday night, oddly enough, was louder than Sunday. Although the bar underneath was supposedly closed, I could still here thumping music until I finally fell asleep at around 12:45. There were also groups of drunk people walking up and down the street until about 12:30. Mornings were loud as well. Each morning I was woken up anywhere from 6:30 to 7:00 by garbage pick up or deliveries to bars and restaurants. If you want a quiet place to relax after exploring York then I do not recommend this place. However, if you want to party and stay up all night then this is the place for you. It may also be worth noting that I emailed the owner Saturday night asking about the possibility of me leaving for another hotel the next day - I even offered up a scenario where I only got a partial refund for the remaining nights - and they emailed me back basically saying: You’re in the city center so it’s going to be loud. Sunday and Monday will be quiet, etc. Quote - “we really recommend you stay and enjoy the experience.”

Excellent location in the historic area of York. Rooms are nice some small some larger. Lots of stairs if elevator is out of order.

What can I say, we had an absolutely lovely time in an absolutely lovely apartment. The first thing I noticed was the cleanliness, well after the amazing mural on the livingroom wall. I am terrified of spiders and was a bit worried about the beams, but there was no need. The high ceilings down to the floorboards were cobweb free! The kitchen is well equipped and oven easy to use. All the conveniences you could need, besides a freezer, but that was no loss. The livingroom is comfortable with a large smart TV and the bed was very plush without being too soft. The bathrooms (yes 2) were quirky and a bit on the small side but we guessed this is due to load bearing walls or renovation restrictions. Nonetheless they were ample for need. Showers were great pressure and temperature. And they even had automatic lights so no bumping your toes in the dark. We had a great time and will book again if we come back. NB: check your email the morning of arrival for "check-in" instructions.
