Just had an absolutely fabulous 2 night stay. Pleasant rooms, very clean and tidy, a comfy bed and quietly appointed made for restful nights. The pub is cosy and welcoming with delicious food, reasonably priced, and an excellent breakfast. The staff and locals made us feel extremely welcome too. Highly recommend!

We came in during a 24 hr hiking activity and they gave us only the best hospitality. They let us in when it was pouring rain and gave us a room to sit in. Thank you so much to the staff of the Black Dog for how friendly you were.

Decent-sized room, which was clean. Good bathroom, which was spotlessly clean. Decent telly. Kettle and drinks sachets. Good restaurant. Unfortunately I had to leave without having breakfast, but it looked good and smelled great. The location is excellent, in a quiet area by a church. Good for walks. Close enough to Bolton if you need to go there. Car parking is free just across from the main building.

I have visited this pub many times over the years and like a fine wine it just seems to get better and better It's a Holt's pub so you get traditional style ale at £4 a pint. Service is friendly and helpful as are the locals. There is a large dining/function room which is well appointed. The car park is really ample and there always seems to be room. There's a dart board too

This is a lovely little pub that I often frequent after a walk in the area. It has good (vegan) food and beers and it is dog friendly. The staff are always friendly and helpful, but can 'fill up' quickly around lunch time, especially at weekends.

Nice location and staff were friendly & welcoming. Unfortunately, the room was extremely cold and shivered most of the night. Radiator in bathroom was cold, single glazed window that didn’t close properly, so passing traffic below the window was noisy. A freezing cold draft coming in through large gap under the door, which we had to block with a towel and minimal bedding, despite it being mid February. Thankfully we had taken a thick fur blanket, which helped keep our dogs warm on the floor. The room was not very clean and there was black mould on the walls. Wish we’d read the reviews before booking! It is obvious many people have highlighted the same issues for quite some time but, the owners don’t appear to be making any effort to address them, in order to make their customer’s stay a nicer, more comfortable experience. Tea and coffee making facilities were a bonus but, were little comfort for the night we had. A little money spent improving the windows, heating and housekeeping, would make this place amazing.

Lovely cosy little place, usually rammed in summer but nice and peaceful in winter. Only had a drink but will stop for food next time. Update: revisited in mid Jan for a Sunday family meal, and was not disappointed at all. The waitress even suggested options for a Sunday lunch we had not seen that brought the overall bill down. Very impressed and will definitely visit again.
