Each experience at Watford hospital has been a terrible one, appalling service and the staff don't seem to know where things are. Food was offered to patient and then rejected as there is no vegan food, no fruit is allowed but orange juice is. 7 hours without food, it's insane. I was told there was a WH smith by one member of staff and then someone else confirmed there wasn't. Even the hot cafe didn't have any vegan options. The wards are also filthy, no clear signage and lots of confused staff and patients. Conflicting information from nurses and generally a traumatic place to be which feels lost.

What is happening to the hospitals??? I had my surgery there which was a day surgery which i don't understand how because you are in no state to even get up after an extensive procedure!! I could not even empty my bladder properly. The nurses were so determined to get you to walk minutes after my surgery!!!!! I was then moved to another ward because I could not get up without being in so much pain - Elizabeth Ward. You could see the difference in care in the day and a huge drop in the night when visitors are gone!! Even if you're a young patient they don't listen to the bell!!! I assumed the ward was especially for paitients who had the same procedure as me but it was mixed which meant the nurses did not have or lacked knowledge in my area of care. I had a temperature which was only confirmed by the nurse after my husband asked her to check or else she would have ignored it. Breakfast consists of no fruits but sliced bread and cereal. Lunch and dinners are microwaved meals with zero focus on nutrition. I appreciate the budgets but come on, you can't get in one piece of fruit for each patient???? This is a place for rest and recovery?? Shocking. The ward itself is super old and dirty! Also if you do have an elderly relative in this hospital, please go visit them daily and spend a number of hours with them so you can advocate for their care. The manner in which the nurses talk to them is disgusting and scary. I've seen this many times and saw this, this time in my section. None of them have empathy except for the lovely food lady. No empathy = a scary place to be in.

If i could of given no stars i would. My mum was admitted to Watford hospital after a fall in the care home. Her stay has been very upsetting with hardly an communication between staff and relatives. The way the young nurses spoke to my mum and treated her was mostly very disrespectful, at times she was left calling out as she needed the toilet, she was sitting in a chair and was told just to do it in her pad, luckily i arrived after witnessing this from a distance, i asked the nurse, if that was her mum would she expect her to sit in mess in a chair until such time (as she told me) they had time to attend her. My mum already grade 2 bedsores after spending 7 weeks mostly in bed. I witnessed other patients who didnt have any visitors being spoken to the same way. I overheard one lady patient telling her visitors the nurses were only nice when visitor's were on the ward and others times they were ignored. I watched as there was no eye contact made with patients by staff to check if they needed anything. My only shout out would be to the lady who delivered the meals, she was very kind and gentle with the patients. My mother is 90 years old frail and very frighted, she begged and pleaded me to take her home and finally when the day came she cried and must of said at least 50 times I'm going home, please don't ever put me back in this hospital. This is a lady who was a stunner in her day, she has a City and Guilds qualification, she was a first class Baker and made the most wonderful wedding cakes. Just remember you will be old one day, what goes around comes around.

After a frightening experience and sudden emergency situation,my friend was taken to Watford General Hospital. Their care and aftercare wad amazing and we are so grateful, but their Blood Clinic needs sorting out! After having been sent there for an URGENT! blood test....his name was 1 minute at the top of the screen then the next minute at the bottom and 30 mins was nearly up! He wasn't well and was getting stressed, one lady receptionist was fairly pleasant, but one male wasn't....so l give the hospital 5 stars but the Blood Clinic 2!

Where do I begin. Three visits in 48 hours for my 17 y/o. The first visit was 5 hours, some blood taken. Was moved to something called Decision Unit where we were told by a Dr that everything came back 'unremarkable' and we can go home but he didn't have a clue about what was discussed with the previous Doctor or the notes. He just waved us off quickly. Second attempt we waited for 3 hours from 1am-4am and gave up because it was SO slow. Another patient had been waiting 5 hours since 10pm and we were told we were 'at least 13 patients behind' so we went home. Saw our GP at 11am that morning who sent us straight back to A&E. Although things were quicker, after we were seen by a Doctor in Emergency Assessment Unit at 5pm, it took 8 hours to be admitted and put on a ward. An x-ray was agreed to but it was then cancelled and they refused to do it. It took 8 hours to take us for the scan the next morning. We had to practically chase the nurses every hour to get things done or chased. We stayed two nights. When the Doctors came round in the AM, it was a flying visit with little time to process anything or ask any questions. Don't even trust it was correct. It took 6 hours to be discharged and the discharge papers didn't even reflect the diagnosis I was verbally told!!! Many miserable nurses. Some were helpful but felt the whole time lacked urgency or empathy and didn't really feel looked after. Doctors had even less time and not much was explained clearly enough. Where do you go for actual medical help anymore?? I'm still unsure if we were given the correct diagnosis.

This is about the Maternity Ward Staff. Absolutely Amazing. I was admitted to hospital 39 weeks pregnant. I came in for a routine check, due to tightenings I was admitted. I was there for 2days and was moved around from antenatal ward, to delivery, to postpartum ward. I cannot explain in words how amazing my time was there. Staff in all areas were so understanding, they helped me when I was at my lowest, made me feel like "I've got this" I never heard any negative comments from staff there even when I was postpartum and needed help so kept pressing the assistance buzzer. They were all encouraging and I truly believe that's what made my postpartum time there so short, they really went above and beyond to help me. If I could I would give everyone who helped me a little something to show my gratitude. 100% hands down the best maternity ward I've been. I really hope they see this and see how truly grateful I am for all their help.

It’s currently 4am. I’ve been waiting in accident & ‘emergency’ (A&E) for around 4 hours. Not sure how the hospital has managed to average 3.4 stars when people have all the time in the world whilst waiting to be seen to load up Google maps and give their honest thoughts on the hospital. As mentioned, I’m still waiting in A&E, and at this point I’m wondering if I’ll be seen today, tomorrow, or next week.. Update: waited over 8 hours.

My elderly mother has had quite a few admissions to Watford General over the years, the most recent being after a fall which broke her hip. Both she and I have nothing but admiration and gratitude for the kindness and skill of all the staff at this hospital. The care has been exemplary every time. It is clear that staff are often working under enormous pressures including bed shortages and rude or aggressive patients and yet my mother has always been looked after very well and has nothing but praise for the hospital. She is a retired nurse, so she recognises good care when she receives it. We are very, very grateful to Watford General and it’s wonderful staff.

Let me start by saying that I would have given no star, but for the helpful receptionist. Date of visit 16th February 2022. The Streaming nurse Cheryl and the ogre (not sure of her name, but her badge string had Mariam), both lacked the simplest etiquette and curtesy. Very rude and uncouth. Lacked human empathy. The beauty is we shall all be ill and in need of help so watch out for karma. I spent 4 hours in agony. They refused to answer any questions or pretend to be helpful. I thought they were terrible tilk I met Shrek on steroids. The doctor did not listen to anything I said and still prescribed the same medication that caused the reason I visited urgent care. I had to leave and make an appointment with my GP. What a waste of my time. Very horrid experience.

I had an appointment at Watford General Hospital on the 7th October.I was there at 5.50am for appointment at 9.30.am I sat on a chair near WHSmith in the hospital. I was reading a book and in the corner of my eyes I saw a guy in WHSmith cleaning ,then bringing stock, checking, bringing newspapers. He was working non stop Not a cup of coffee...He was just running up and down sorting ,serving ...I just couldn't stop admiring how hard working he was. If it was his own business I can understand. Till 8 am that guy never stopped. WHSmith has got a very reliable, hardworking individual .Well done and keep up the good work.
