   I broke & ripped open my finger at 7pm late Nov - I went to A&E, the nurses were superstars, reception, triage, xray and the lady at the fracture clinic. I do have to say when staff changed for overnight the fracture nurse wasnt super. I then got a follow up appointment later. Again nurses were grand - The orthopedic consultant however was dreadful, stuck up & posh, I came out of the meeting furious. I am not putting a complaint in as I know they are under so much pressure & stress. The nurses, reception, triage are all fab, such a great experience, thank you for showing care & friendliness. Such a credit to the NHS.

   If I could give this hospital 0 stars I would, if you care about your health, self worth and dignity I would steer clear from this place all together. Started my maternity care here as I had my first son here 4 years ago, I cannot fault the women’s clinic, however communication between departments is AWFUL. My pregnancy hasn’t been an easy one, I think it’s also worth mentioning that I’m a woman of colour, I have iron deficiency anemia, pelvic girdle pain and now a blood clot in my lower left lung. I received my first iron infusion at 32 weeks pregnant despite anemia being discovered very early on in pregnancy, the anemia is so bad I’ve been bed bound my entire pregnancy. The infusion suite is another terrible department, dismissive and never pick up the phone. Forget about being booked in for treatment. They just won’t do it. A & E department needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. Zero infection control or PPE and please Don’t get me started on antenatal Maternity. And the SDEC? Cherry tree ward? The gaslighting consultants in there? I’m due to return very soon as I have to finish what I started so a part 2 of this review will be up tomorrow.

   My mum was admitted recently for sadly end of life She went onto Eastwood for a few days which although is not usually EOL was a most professional and caring environment for anyone to hope to be. Each and every staff member we met gave excellent communication and pastoral support to us and brilliant care to mum.Nothing was too much trouble for them. They allowed me to stay beside mum which helped my experience of a difficult situation. I felt extremely proud and encouraged to see an NHS ward working at its best with all the staff working as a very coordinated and effective team Thank you so much for everything you did for us

   I am a cancer patient at this hospital. I have no cancer nurse specialist (CNS) and no cancer support worker. My pain meds aren't working so I rang the pain team 3 x on Monday, no one replied so I went to A and E at 4.15pm. It looked like a war zone, at 7.30am Tue I am still waiting for a bed as my oncologist wanted me admitted. I have cancer in my pelvis and have had to sit on a hard plastic chair all night. We wouldn't treat an animal the way patients are treated. The system is not fit for purpose. It is disgusting

   My husband is a patient at the oral surgery unit. He had to miss his appointment due to having flu. In the meantime his problem flared up again. The unit were fantastic at getting him seen so quickly and getting him the treatment he needed. We are very grateful for the prompt, caring , professional service they provided.

   I have been trying to get through to the orthopaedics appointments line for 4 days now and it is constantly ringing. This is disgusting I need to have a follow up appointment. As they have never contacted me before unless I ring up them out of the sky I get an appointment. This is an absolute joke but it’s not funny any more. What is anyone supposed to do???? The phone is never answered and apparently there is only 1 line to that department. How can this be in a hospital that covers a vast area I am absolutely disgusted with Southend hospital.

   Been in the hospital with my newborn daughter for over a week, nurses have been nice. But I was standing at a window getting some fresh air when an Indian security guard on the night shift came at me very hostile and rude. It’s a shame you get rude people like this in a place like a hospital thinking they are something they are not pushing their weight around because they wear a security uniform.

   Mental health unit... Staff will create their own version of events when discussing patients or making notes with made up details thrown in. Staff will ignore your request for medication (let me clarify, it was medication they prescribed to me within the hospital, PRN. should have not been an issue). Was told by a nurse my only option was to accept admission to a hospital in a heavily traumatising location or to be discharged. Went to said hospital where I was told I should not have been made to come here and they should have arranged an alternative. Enjoy sitting on an arm chair for days too. Few good staff. Not worth ever turning to this place.
