I went to the Christmas Tree Festival today and it was one of the best I have been to in the lovely surroundings of the cathedral. There were a good number of trees, in addition to other decorations, around the cathedral. It cost Β£4.50 to see the trees (Β£5 if you gift aid). I had tea and toast in the refectory and this was very reasonable. 2 very thick slices of toast, 4 pats of butter and at least 2 cups of tea in the pot all for Β£4.90. There are toilets near the refectory and some, including an accessible toilet, near the cathedral entrance. The cathedral and refectory staff were very friendly.

A beautiful cathedral lots of history and things to see. Β£5 voluntary admission price into cathedral. Takes a good hour to walk about. On day of visit part of area was unaccessible due to a private function. Nice grounds to walk around also souvenir shop.

Extraordinary place. Well maintained, very large, beautiful ceilings, glass, mosaics, metalwork, statues and more. Not to opulent (unlike some) but extremely well maintained. Exceptional value for money with a minimum entry price of Β£5. Pay more of you can as a building of this size and quality takes thousands per day to keep open.

My Visit to Chester Cathedral, Chester Visiting Chester Cathedral was an unforgettable experience β€” a perfect blend of history, architecture, and serenity right in the heart of the city. The cathedral stands as one of the most magnificent landmarks in Chester, with its stunning Gothic architecture, intricate stained-glass windows, and beautifully carved wooden choir stalls that tell centuries-old stories. As I walked inside, the calm atmosphere instantly stood out. The soaring arches, detailed stonework, and peaceful background music created a sense of timeless beauty. The central nave is breathtaking, and the Lady Chapel and Cloisters are absolute must-sees β€” especially the peaceful garden courtyard that feels miles away from the bustle outside. I also climbed the Cathedral Tower, which offers panoramic views of Chester’s rooftops, the city walls, and even Wales on a clear day. The staff and volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable, eager to share fascinating details about the cathedral’s Romanesque origins and its role through medieval times. Visitor Tips: β€’ Entry is free, but donations are appreciated. β€’ The Tower Tour and Falconry & Nature Gardens are worth adding to your visit. β€’ Allow at least 1–2 hours to fully explore and enjoy the architecture and history. β€’ There’s a lovely cafΓ© and gift shop inside for a quiet break. Overall: A must-visit gem in Chester β€” awe-inspiring, peaceful, and full of heritage. Perfect for history lovers, photographers, and anyone who appreciates timeless beauty.

We were pleasantly surprised by the cathedral and volunteers. Entry is by donation only, though at Christmas it is Β£2.50 for the Christmas trees. There are beautiful ceilings, floors, mosaics, stained glass windows, woodwork, and more to see inside. They are also building a Lego model of the cathedral, with people able to pay Β£1 per brick then actually contribute it to the sculpture. (Very innovative fundraising idea!) Make sure to check out the cafe - it’s an amazing atmosphere. Toilets, gift shop, and tours also available.

A very beautiful, peaceful place with a warm atmosphere. Lots to see. Tours available 11am and 2pm (free of charge) or enjoy at your own leisure. Great stained glass windows, mosaics, tapestries and art work. Currently there is a Christmas tree walk too and Nativity art installed. Great cafΓ© and gift shop.

Really beautiful cathedral. We also visited York minister this weekend and they are almost opposites. This cathedral has a lovely red brown brick that is dark and moody. Beautiful stained windows and features around the place. During summer it is not free but the Β£2.50pp charge is very reasonable. In comparison York Minster is Β£12pp. They had a train display on whilst we were there which was great to see in use. Friendly staff and plenty of open space not crowded.

What a stunning cathedral! I've been there twice, it is worth the effort to see it. Really intricate design inside. Our group enjoyed seeing this amazing place. Even if you have visited many old cathedrals, you'll love this one.

Amazing cathedral! It is extremely well preserved, the garden is wonderfully coloured in the spring season and all the small details that compose it creates an amazing place to walk and relax. You have very old manufacts and modern ones, such as the LEGO (yes, LEGO!) model of the whole building. Something you think to be in another epoch while you walk among the beautiful columns of some of its rooms... absolutely recommended!
