Stayed: July 17–21, 2025 Room: 51 We stayed at the Matheson Olympia Hotel for four nights and, while there were a couple of positives, the overall experience didn’t meet expectations — especially for something labeled a “hotel.” To start, it’s not a traditional hotel. It felt more like a large house that had been converted into one, with no reception or staff present. That alone might not be a dealbreaker, but it set the tone for what followed. Positives: The location is great — close to public transport and in a safe neighborhood. The room was clean when we arrived, and they provided a fan since there’s no AC, which was a nice touch. Negatives: There was no room service at all during our stay. After a few days, trash bins were overflowing, towels and sheets were dirty, and we ran out of toilet paper. These may not be mandatory, but they are certainly expected from a place calling itself a hotel. Room 51 was incredibly small. It barely fits one person, let alone two. The bathroom was extremely cramped — I had to sit sideways on the toilet because the sink was in the way. The bath water fluctuated rapidly between hot and cold, making it very uncomfortable. The windows were old and lacked security bars, and since the room faced the street, we didn’t feel comfortable leaving them open, even though there was no AC. Because the room is right near the entrance, we could hear every time someone came in or out — it was quite noisy. A major concern: Even though we were given a code for the front door, it was unlocked almost every time we came or went. The building door remained open, which didn’t feel secure, especially with no staff on-site. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again. If we had known the size and conditions of the room, we would’ve booked a bigger room or a different place altogether. This might be okay for solo travelers who just need a bed and don't care much about comfort or service, but it’s not ideal for couples or anyone expecting basic hotel standards.

We had to sleep in mold. The roof had a massive leak, and water was pouring in out of the roof form everywhere. Service? Nonexistent. They kindly tell you that you'll get a refund, but once you leave, they block you. The leak wasn’t fixed, yet they entered our room to steal my girlfriend’s earrings. Booking does little about it; the cash register must keep ringing. We booked another hotel the same day. Due to the damages and theft, we are now consulting a lawyer. STAY AWAY FROM HERE!

I had low expectations based on some of the reviews here, but had no problems during my stay. Yes the room was small, but I'm 6ft and had no trouble moving around. Yes it was hot, but there's a thermostat on the radiator. And yes the decor was a bit worn, but who cares at this price point. The room was clean, comfortable, and dark, and the price unbeatable. There were plenty of towels and toiletries and the kettle with tea, coffee, and biscuits was a nice touch. There was some noise from other rooms, but nothing earplugs didn't fix. The only thing the room lacked in my opinion was a bedside lamp and I had to be careful with the tap and shower which could run scalding hot.

I regret to inform you that I am not satisfied with my stay at the hotel. I expected a more clean room. you should clean up after each guest and this time there was a bottle of another guest in the fridge. there is garbage behind the bed, the walls are stained with drinks. the cleanliness of the bathroom is also not the best, there is a fungus on the joints. The water in the shower drained heavily into the drain because the drain was clogged with hair. you can also add that despite the open window in the room was very hot. Lack of proper ventilation. The room we received was very claustrophobic. the pictures of the rooms that are included in the offer show more spacious rooms, the small one is not.

We stayed 1 night at 23. The host Sam was lovely however we were very disappointed with the room. The bed was very small and dose not comfortably sleep 2. The shower was so small you couldn’t properly wash yourself and the shower drains smells really bad. We had no pressure with our hot water in the shower either. The host assured us it would be back to normal by tomorrow. Unfortunately it was not. The rooms lights when on would constantly flicker on and off and the room had several stains and marks and the overall appearance was poor. Unfortunately we would not come here again.

Pretty good. Bed is tall, lots of pillows, very clean room, decent bathroom. Quite cheap in fancy area!

Expensive for the size of room and no breakfast included. Bed was quite uncomfortable and didn’t seem large enough to be a double. Quite a noisy location with aeroplanes going over and there were either staff or guests in the back garden talking loudly in the middle of the night, and due to the heat of the room we couldn’t close the windows. However, the room was clean, safe location and tea/coffee and biscuits were included. Also the fridge and microwave were handy.

Lovely place to stay: very quiet and comfortabel environment, very close to a tube station. It is an old, big house so naturally there are no facilities like a big reception or dining room. The rooms are cleaned before arrival and after departure so no inbetween. After check-in I never saw the staff for a week but a telephone number was given. Perfect for travellers who enjoy a little privacy, I will come back again.

Bad experience! Extremely small room (and I mean EXTREMELY), bed was larger than the floor that was left to walk on. Room smelled horrid, I think it was due to the shower. Only 2 large towels, no hand towels. TV didn’t work. Bed was smaller than it was advertised. Our room was on the ground floor and other guests constantly kept walking past our window, thus we had to close the drapes at all times! Very weirdly acting staff, whispering about us when checking in, nice but kind of not taking their job seriously. VERY small sink so I couldn’t even wash my face. No tables or anything to put stuff on. Definitely won’t go there again.
