I booked this room through the oyo-rooms website for a 1-night stay on 18th December 2019. The booking process was fine - and information provided before arrival helped to gain access to the property (despite the difficulties experienced by many past residents - if you follow the instructions carefully, it’s really quite simple to find/arrange). What was not fine was when I got into the room... Firstly, the roller-blind on one of the busy street-facing windows had come down completely. This meant that people from the street could clearly see into the room - and that wouldn’t be great when vacating the shower, etc... there were no curtains so I had to resort to doing a makeshift fix on the blind. With some success, I managed to balance it on the fixtures on top so that it could be carefully unrolled to cover the window. It’s safe to say I left it like that the whole time! The next thing that hit me was the temperature - it was freezing! I expected it to be chilly (as it was December when i visited) but it was very noticeable. The room comes with a small wall heater. I whacked it on as soon as I put my suitcase down - but discovered that a timer was set so that it didn’t stay on any longer than about 40 minutes. In a such bitterly cold room (a big room too), 40 minutes would not be a sufficient amount of time to take the chill out of the air. I resorted to self help by altering the timer so that it stayed on long enough to make a difference to the temperature! It still went off several times because of some restrictions with the timer function - anyway, it never really got ‘cosy’ warm. After, I checked the bathroom. The room had a lovely, modern bathroom - which was nice - and the shower did work well. The lack of lighting was the major issue. Only 1 out of the 4 spotlights were working - meaning that visibility in the mirror wasn’t great (shaving was a nightmare as I couldn’t see properly). Next, the mirror...the entire room had one small mirror above the sink. It was too low down for me, but ultimately not big enough. There was plenty of space in the room to place a long-standing mirror - but one wasn’t found. The bedding was bog-standard, but the mattress was awful. Lumpy and it had lost its ‘give’ if that makes sense. All throughout the night, I awoke with pains where the lumps were digging into my side and back. Not great. Finally, the whole checkout process is extremely confusing. There is a ‘welcome notice’ on the wall beside the door. It stated what to do when vacating the room on checkout - however it gave two contradicting instructions. At the beginning it said to return the keys to where you picked them up (which I was expecting to do) but at the end of the notice, it said ‘on leaving the property, simply leave the keys on the dining table and leave the room door unlocked’. So I had to call up to clarify what to do. Then, the timing of checkout is also not very clear. On the note it said 11am, but when booking initially, it said 12noon and then the confirmation email said checkout was at 3pm. I opted for 11am checkout as I didn’t want to stay any longer but the company need to make it crystal clear so customers know when they’re expected the checkout. It’s safe to assume that the stay wasn’t brilliant, I wouldn’t even call it ‘fair’. I would not recommend this property if any of the issues above are important to you.
