Mixed feelings with restaurant We booked a table for lunch, seemingly the only customers then 21 walkers arrived and a few minutes later some older gentlemen clearly local personalities! Our order was taken after about 20 minutes. My partner had a pie which was nice but the crust was burnt in places. I ordered the prawn skewers, a generous portion but on the cusp of undercooked. The chips were delicious but the onion rings, whilst pleasantly crunchy on the outside the onions themselves were undercooked . Lemon roulade was nice of the lemon drizzled over it was quite fluorescent and very sweet. Nice staff dated but clean toilets

Had a tasty lunch with friends. Lots of starters which we shared plus mains which I changed part of my order to add extras (Stilton and mushroom) to my omelette. Landlady was very accommodating. Service and food were excellent. We will return .

Last night we visited the Darnley Arms with family. This was in the middle location wise and website/pictures looked lovely. Unfortunately first impressions were disappointing as we felt the pub wasn't what was expected from research. However we sat down for our booking at 8pm. We chose from the menu and were brought our food in a good timely manner. The mains of Mixed grill, scampi and chips and rack of ribs were plentiful and tasty however the moules mariniere was a real disappointment. Firstly the cream had curdled and there were lumps all over the mussels and no sauce. We raised this with the staff and it was taken away with lots of apologies. It was quickly returned and this time the sauce wasn't what was expected. Some of the dish was eaten but mostly left. The table was cleared and we were asked if we would like to see the desert menu. The waitress then came back to tell us the chef had actually gone home and we couldn't have pudding after all. We feel if the kitchen closes at 9pm bookings shouldn't be taken for 8pm because a hour isn't long enough for a 3 course meal. Although the inadequate meal was deducted from the bill we will not be returning.

Arrived for Sunday dinner had to wait a long time as a big table was being done before us and we was informed by the lovely waitresses, when our food arrived, the parsnips were greasy and hard (if these had not been served then we would have been better) we were offered extra roast potatoes instead, great service by the ladies. Food was OK, I always ask for extra gravy :) thank you. Would I return...probably not unfortunately

Wow what a inexperience we had at this pub. Had gone there for lunch, we parked in the car park and walked around to the local shop on the way back we tried to get into the pub but couldn't find the door, As walking back to the car a very rude women (think she is the owner of the pub) ask us "can I help you" as I turn around she accused us of stealing cars saying that we are on cctv and have the car registration number and had to explain to her that we are not thieves but we are there for lunch, The bar woman who served us was very nice and polite and the food was fantastic 5 stars and the pub was lovely but felt so unwelcomed and awkward as we stayed there.
