Been going to The Carnarvon for over 30 years Christmas, birthdays, wedding anniversary’s meeting up with friends always enjoyed the food always recommend as a place to go but not anymore. It is now owned by Distinctive Inns. Different menu at extortionate prices. This is a very ‘distinctive ’ chicken and mushroom pie at £17.95 one carrot a few green beans small amount of watery gravy and a dollop of mash the pie even with extra gravy it was uneatable. The ‘complementary veg’ a couple of carrots few green beans and some soggy stuff which I think was cabbage which was uneatable. Jame Bull the owner does not think there is an issue because he as received over 7,000 reviews with the majority being positive think the figure is from the other Inns not just The Carnarvon over a number of years. We are booked for Christmas Day again fearing the worse hoping for the best doubt we will go to eat there again which is a shame the reputation the previous owner worked so hard for is ruined . Try the Devonshire at Langwith or The Oak at Edwinstowe there a room there to take a dog if you are out walking and fancy lunch

This is my first time coming since the menu change, and I've been a customer since 2023. I don't think I'll be back. The atmosphere and service are always great; however, I believe most of the food has changed. I believe You no longer get the baby potatoes, broccoli refill, or chip refill. I had the steak and chips and can tell the steak quality is different from how it used to be.me and my partner spent £100 on 2 steak meals 3 drinks and 1 dessert and overall didn’t feel like it was worth it for the quality now. On a better note our server was lovely and inside looks well decorated

Nicely done out pub with lots of space. Good selection of drinks as well as a decent sized menu. Food was really tasty. Not a fan personally of chips being served in little bowls or mini fryer baskets so that let it down a bit but can't fault the quality. Extensive beer garden which in the hot weather was great to sit out with a nice cold pint of cider. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

Visited on a Saturday at 6pm. Restaurant already very busy with lots of large groups. Wait staff are excellent, definitely 5* they are very attentive and quick to take food and drinks orders. I had the braised beef which came with mash and 6 green beans. The dish was ok, but under seasoned and would have liked more vegetables. My partner went for the double smash burger, with fries and a tiny pot of coleslaw. The burger was tasty but again very small and not really an adult portion size. We had a dessert of sticky toffee pudding with ice cream which was lovely. And creme brûlée which was in the tiniest shallowest pot I have ever seen it was less then an inch in depth, and although tasty gone in 3 spoonfuls! Overall it’s been well decorating and has a lovely buzz about the place but the food fell short due to portion sizes. See attached pics for current menu July 2025. I know restaurants are struggling at the moment but I personally think this place is over priced for what you get.

We had a very nice meal. The food was hot and delicious, I had hunters chicken and my husband had Sweet potato and chickpea curry, it was served with fresh vegetables. we were very pleased.

This restaurant never fails to deliver. Great food, good selection of beer and lovely staff. Always a friendly atmosphere that never disappoints. Been several times and everything time seems better than the last. One of those places that makes you want to book again as soon as you leave.

Absolutely fantastic once again. We like this place so much that we booked an 'off peak' dinner for 20 guests. Perfect in every way, especially our personal service from Natalie.

A spontaneous visit after visiting Pleasley Country Park with our toddler. It was our first visit as we found them on google with high reviews. Having arrived, we were impressed by the well presented building and the interior decor which was high class, modern and clean - very much so that we felt somewhat underdressed. We were then shown to our table, whereby we weren't offered a high chair despite having a young toddler and therefore had to ask for one. I ordered the Sunday roast and opted to go large which included two extra meats. My partner ordered the wholetail scampi and our toddler had the twisted pizza from the children's menu. My partner requested a pint of fresh orange juice, a pint of draught coke. Before our meals arrived, we were both considering bringing family on a separate occasion. However, upon receiving our meals we were disheartened. The quality of the meals didn't match that of the price and we expected a much higher standard given the atmosphere of the place and menu. My mashed potato tasted similar to instant mash and the meat wasn't what was to be expected and also seemed like a small portion for the price. Yorkshire puddings were homemade and tasted nice. My partners wholetail scampi wasn't anything to really brag about, considering the price of £11+ and my toddlers twisted pizza lacked flavour and had a cheap taste to it. When my partner ordered her drink, she was asked whether she wanted it as a pint, to which she responded with yes, but with this in mind when she got her drink it was not and having checked the receipt it was in fact a Britvic Orange meaning it probably came from a bottle and therefore couldn't have been a pint regardless. The filtered water, which was complimentary so we can't really complain about but I will say it however, was warm and tasted like the tap water from our kitchen. I don't think we will be returning, which is a shame because we were looking forward to bringing family up until our meals arrived.

The Carnarvon helped us celebrate our small Christmas eve wedding. We was in the glass House area which was nice and private. The food was perfect and all our guests was happy and enjoyed what they had ordered. We opted for the Christmas fayre menu to keep it simple which had a decent choice on it for people who didn't want an actual Christmas dinner. The only mix up I had noticed is some people wanted custard and not cream on their puddings but it was sorted straight away with no fuss. Our guest who haven't been to the Carnarvon before was commenting how nice the place is and want to visit again. I would highly recommend , we got a fantastic professional services from start to finish. The only complaint I would have is that the Christmas fayre should have came with Santa hats and crackers which was not put out. Would have been fun for the photos.
