I experienced shocking customer service at Evens Cycles. I bought a Cube mountain bike there last Christmas for my son, and parts have been falling off it. When I called to see if they could rectify the problem, the assistant talked over me the entire time. I eventually took the bike in for them to look at. The staff member put it on a stand and started repeatedly punching the tyre while saying, “That can’t fall off.” They then quoted me £200 for a repair that the bike factory did for just £30. After doing some research, I discovered that Cube bikes have a known issue with loose parts. Since the bike is less than 12 months old, it should have been covered under warranty. In short, the staff at Evens Cycles were rude, and their prices are massively inflated compared to other shops just a short walk away. I strongly advise avoiding them.

Never again! Took my Trek ebike in due to motor problems. After chasing for a week I was told it needed a new motor, which I had to pay for in store (no phone payments accepted). Paid for motor (which was in stock with supplier), was told it would take a week. 4 weeks later, chased, issues with Evans' ordering system, it hadnt been ordered. Chased & chased again, part eventually received, however Evans didn't have the software. Another few weeks for them to get the software. After 12 weeks Evans admitted they couldn't fix it (despite being a Trek ebike, and Evans being a Trek dealer!). When I went to pick up my bike, I discovered that theyd ordered a battery rather than the motor I had paid for. At least I got a full refund (although they did try to sell me the battery that I didn't need). Pathetic service.

A few weeks ago I went into 6 different cycle stores and got a vastly different experience at all 6 stores. I was looking for a multipurpose bike for £1000-£1400. Evans Cycles offered BY FAR the worst experience, lack of/no knowledge, no enthusiasm whatsoever, an older guy joked when I walked in about buying this few thousand £ bike on entry and completely ignored what I asked. Pathetic effort, safe to say I did NOT buy from Evans and never will.

In June 2025 Jamie (assistant manager) was able to resolve an issue for me, and in doing so demonstrated the best customer service care I have experienced in Chester during the last 20 years. I can’t recommend this branch of Evans cycles highly enough. In October 2025 Jamie came to the rescue again when my Boardman broke down. How reassuring to have an honest, decent bike mechanic and sales manager whom I can trust. 100% Jamie. 10/10. 5***** I took my ageing Boardman to Diego for a repair and he was very generous with his time, talking me through all the options. He has kindly helped me in the past too. I have always received excellent service from everyone at Evans Cycles, and never had to wait for assistance. I bought a bike there a few years ago at a fantastic price.

Took the bike in for a health check, came back that it needed some parts replacing chain and rear cassette, didn’t want them to replace them just true the wheels and service the bike. They agreed on the phone to ahead with this work however, within an hour or so they called me back telling me that my rear wheel was cracked and they wouldn’t carry out the work if I didn’t buy the chain and cassette. They agreed to replace the wheel so over the phone and it would take 3-4 days. Called up 3 days later for an update and was told the wheel had not been ordered because I didn’t pay for, wasn’t informed of this in the original conversation, so bike had been with them for a week now and still no wheel. Had to go in to pay for the wheel as they don’t take payments over the phone unlike everyone else in 2025. Another week goes by and still no wheel so requested a refund. I do think the staff are doing their best but they restrained under the crazy processes being put in place by their owner. Evans cycles is not the company it use to be.

I had great service from Adam who provided really helpful advice on the best type and size of bike for my intended use with no hard sell. Picked up a Trek Dual Sport that was on sale and I’m very happy with my purchase.

I am from Australia and had purchased two bike security chains from home to use in securing our bags when travelling by train in the UK. Once in the UK and prior to our travel I was having problems in understanding how the bike chain codes actually worked. My Chester friend suggested I visit Evans Cycles. The staff their were fantastic and solved my problem for me. Considering I had not purchased the bike security chains from them I considered their help to be extremely professional and considerate. The staff at Evans Cycles in Tarvin Road Chester UK are brilliant people. Thank you Evans Cycles. David

This is a nice looking shop in a lovely town. Has the potential to be a great shop and service to all let down when I visited by unhelpful and uninterested staff. Sitting there with no customers, no bikes being worked on and playing on their phone. I was passing and had a technical fault. They didn’t even look up from their screens and just said it needs to be booked in! While that might have been true, they didn’t even offer to make eye contact with me let alone eyeball the bike. Even if for no other reason to check if it is safe to ride. If I could give zero stars, I would. Sad.

I picked up my evidence on Saturday from the store in Chester, the two lads in there were great but the place was a bit understaffed. That said they coped admirably and were able to process my order very swiftly. As for the bike I’m absolutely made up with it. Everything I wanted and expected so very satisfied. Great work fellas keep it up!! Then 2 months later I had a small bump on my bike. Took it Evans cycles and they informed me that the warranty was void because of this. I left my bike with them for 16 days and not a single thing was done it in an effort to get it fixed,I rang in everyday to get an update and was fobbed off continuously. Really poor service to be honest. Took it to a different mechanic in Eastham and they have been brilliant. I won't ever take my bike back to Evans because of the service. Its no use my bike sitting there for over two weeks and it not getting worked on.

I was purchasing a bike on my work Cyclescheme. After over a year of issues with the certification they gave me. I managed to get the hybrid I wanted thanks to the staff in Chester. I had to spend around an hour on the phone with the scheme as the certificate again after 4 attempts would not work. The staff still prepared my chosen bike and answered questions on the phone. I will purchase my next bike from there. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Thank you
