We booked a consultation for a neuter for our Maine Coon kitten, waited half an hour past our appointment time - after seeing our kitten the vet advised the procedure wouldn’t be straight forward and we would need an estimate for what was required - absolutely fine with that. Waited for the quote, nothing until I chased it with them myself. £900!! We were quoted for a routine procedure which has just been done at another vet, for not even a quarter of the cost; with better service! I called around to get some advice from other local vets and it didn’t seem to add up. I queried the price and was told ‘we offer gold standard care and our prices reflect that’ - So, unless you’ve got money to burn, I’d steer clear of these. The service we experienced didn’t reflect the gold standard care they claim to give.

Lovely staff who are very friendly and welcoming. I would like to shout out Dr Chelsey - one of their vets who was amazing with my dog and made him feel super comfortable during his check up and vaccinations which we’ve never had before. A massive thank you as it really goes a long way to ensure a dog has a good experience x

They threw my cat away like he was nothing. I found Toddy as a six-week-old kitten, drenched in a rainstorm and thrown away like rubbish. I took him in, and for the next eight years, he was my shadow — always there through some of the hardest times of my life. He somehow knew when I needed a cuddle. When he suddenly became ill, we took him to Blacks Vets on a Thursday. By Tuesday morning, despite everything, I had to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go. In just a few days, we spent around £2,500 on tests, treatment, and care — we did everything we could. Afterwards, we asked for an individual cremation, so we could have his ashes and say goodbye properly. Instead, we later learned that Toddy had been sent for mass disposal alongside roadkill and wild animals. The crematorium confirmed his ashes had been scattered, so there was nothing left to bring home. When we raised this, the Dudley Blacks Vets practice offered a £150 memorial plaque, even though there were no ashes to place it with. Then, while we were still grieving, they bombarded my wife with weekly text messages demanding £1,176, even after our solicitor formally told them to stop. Two letters from our solicitor were ignored, and they eventually threatened debt collectors and a 25% surcharge. After years of loyalty and thousands spent, this is how we were treated. They made money on Toddy’s suffering, and then threw him away like he was nothing. No family — and no animal — should ever be treated this way. Avoid at all costs.

Excellent service. It was an emergency visit and from making the phone call , being seen. Sedated and had an xray was within 2 hours. The vet was excellent. The only issue is the cost, but that’s not the vet’s issue it’s because of who they are controlled by. I’d definitely recommend anyone to take their pets here . The photo is him still doped up from the sedation but happy to be home .

Been using Blacks vets for quite a few years now, and their care and service right from the telephone call to walking into the practice at Dudley and be warmly greeted at the front desk, then through to vets or nurses and their professional caring manner not only with myself but all of my dogs. Nothing is too much trouble and always happy to explain if you unsure about something. Wouldn't take my pets anywhere else.

I took my dog here today, it was her first visit. I have to say the staff are exceptional, my girl is VERY nervous around people usually, but the team made her feel safe and I could tell she was happy here! Thank you guys, two fine needle aspirations and a blood test and it was quick and stress-free for my baby! 100% recommend these vets, they seriously are good at their jobs.

Everyone there is very nice and helpful. They're a caring lot and obviously love their jobs. My adopted boy, Charlie needed scans and the vet who did them explained his condition and was extremely gentle with him.

Blacks vets undoubtedly saved Freddie’s life, the staff are knowledgeable and caring and we were given ample opportunities to spend time with Freddie during his 9 day hospital care which totalled £7500 during what was an extremely difficult and incredibly stressful time. I cannot thank them highly enough, or recommend them for their excellent clinical care and I genuinely mean that. Though, I feel the practice could have been a little more upfront with the costs, for instance, the amount they charge for oral administration ended up costing an extra £634 on top of the £1160 that other practices often include in their hospitalisation fees or around half the price of. This was not on the estimate bill and we didn’t see the breakdown of invoices till after we were asked to pay to proceed with treatment. I also wanted to understand why a blood transfusion costs ~£1000 more than the costs of bloods itself, given that pet blood bank request no markup is made on blood products - suggesting generous margins - however the practice doesn’t want to discuss these questions any further aimed it’s company sensitive information. I feel the correspondence around fees was a little hostile and defensive and perhaps unfair, given the amount of interest in their business, but in light of the situation, the practice did save our dog’s life and we are very grateful for this. I pledge to petition to parliament that 20% VAT on veterinary bills are reduced. To read more about Freddie’s story, please visit freddie.luxton.uk
