Rang at 9.30am for some Metacam. Wanted to see Star no were working. Told a vet would ring me back. I rang Wakefield again at 5.30pm to be told running behind was still going to get a call. Now 8pm no call. 22 years being with this practice I've done. Insurance oriented and consult money wanted. Disgraceful .

Disgraceful Experience - Refusal of Urgent Care Due to Upfront Fee and Beliefs I am writing this review to warn other clients, especially those on low income or using the Cats Protection neutering scheme. My experience with this practice was shocking and ultimately resulted in a refusal of care for my pet. Financial Barrier: I was repeatedly blocked from booking essential neutering surgery (covered by a voucher) because the practice insisted on a non-negotiable, upfront £50+ consultation fee. When I explained I could not afford this lump sum, they refused a simple payment plan, instead pushing a much more expensive £180 annual contract, proving their priority was profit, not problem-solving. Logistical Refusal: They refused to accommodate my limited transport (one day a week) by performing the consultation and surgery on the same day, despite this being the only feasible option. Welfare Failure: This deliberate delay risked my cat's welfare, as he was experiencing escalating inter-cat aggression that required urgent surgical intervention Refusal of Service: After weeks of being unable to resolve the fee/logistical issue, the practice formally terminated the relationship and refused to provide further routine care, citing "fundamental differences in beliefs." The practice clearly prioritizes rigid, corporate administrative protocols over animal welfare and accommodation for disabled, low-income clients. They showed zero compassion for an animal in need. I strongly advise finding a more flexible and ethical vet. I am getting advice as this refuse may constutuie a breech of the equality act 2012 as my refusal was based on religious grounds. Do not waste your time.

I saw the vet on Thursday 31st July at 5.45 at Calder vets at Wakefield. It was for vaccination for both my cats. The vet Ben seemed very inexperienced. His hands were shaking and he looked liked he had an allergy. I didn’t feel comfortable of the checks he did and advise given. He arranged for injection for worming and agreed to speak to Dewsbury Calder vets. We waited outside but no information given to us and then reception had to provide this. The reception was surprised of the treatment he suggested. Please can I ask for a referral again for my cats to be checked by an experienced vet.

Managed to get a short notice appointment for our poorly cat. She was seen promptly and the vet was lovely with her and explained thoroughly what the problem was and what treatment was required both immediately and going forward. Very happy with the service she received

Vets are professional and informative, but double check when your pet(s) have had their "free consultations" if you have the life plan. Only one of mine had the "free" consultation and when i next came in for one for a same day one, they charged me for it! Cancelled my life plan now as the benefits just aren't good enough considering how much some people probably pay for their pets. Make sure you have insurance if you go here. Receptionists aren't all bad but there's a few who are rude, judgemental and have no empathy. Honestly some shouldn't be working there.

We have been with Calder vets for many years and they have treated both our cats. One in particular has had to have lots of treatment but she is still going strong at 15. The new purpose-build surgery is ideal. Plenty of space and separate cat and dog zones. The vets are great, as are the veterinary nurses. Plus. The reception staff who treat you very much as individuals. Last but by no means least, the team.wh9 process insurance claims are always helpful.I would have no hesitation in recommending the practice.

Well just taken my Staffordshire bull terrier to be spayed the vet consultant where brilliant with her as my dog were so nervous as she's never been to a vet. But we wanted to pay the bill as the consultant said we could the receptionist where really arrogant and she were definitely not impressed we had brought a Staffordshire into the vet. When I said if your going to be like that il take my dog home then and go somewhere else she didn't like it at all.. there so many people are so quick to judge a Staffordshire bull terrier

I have been a client at this practice for 28 years and during that time, all of my dogs have always been very well cared for. I have had 11 dogs during this period with all of them needing veterinary care at some point. From the friendly, supportive receptionist to the knowledgable, caring vets and nurses, all have been exceptional even when having to deal with very upsetting issues: their care and manner towards me has always been very much appreciated. I highly recommend them.
