The personnel at this gym are so kind and helpful; it's really remarkable. Having said that, it worries me that the gym's declining state could jeopardize their careers. I like how their policy discourages inactivity by making it impossible for members to terminate their subscription. I understand what you're thinking. Why would anyone want to make it so hard for someone to cancel their gym membership? Working out at the gym should be like any other job: you should start when it's convenient for you and stop when it's time. At first, I felt the same way. So, I tried to cancel it using every possible way, including the 14-day cancellation window. However, I was told that this policy is only for online registrations. I went so far as to try to use the 30-day notice, but they said it doesn't apply to championship memberships. Even when I tried to cancel Direct Debit, they said they would send bailiffs. Yes, they do their best to keep it from getting canceled. I am genuinely captivated by it. It helps you hold on to your job. They can't pay workers' salaries unless they do this, and I get that. I am grateful for the opportunity to have made a contribution. Joining that Everlast gym is something I dare you to do. But even if a lion were to pursue you, I wouldn't recommend going inside that building.

This is a highly commendable gym; the staff are exceptionally courteous. However, I am distressed by the possibility that their careers may be at risk due to the deteriorating condition of the gym. I appreciate the fact that their policy encourages fitness by preventing members from canceling their membership. I am aware of your thoughts. What could be the underlying reason for restricting an individual from terminating their gym membership? The gym should resemble work—begin at your convenience and cease when you deem appropriate. Initially, I shared the same sentiment; therefore, I have attempted all available methods to cancel it, including the 14-day cancellation window, but I was informed that this policy only applies to online registrations. I even attempted to utilize the 30-day notice, but they indicated that it is only applicable to non-championship memberships. I even attempted to cancel Direct Debit; they threatened to dispatch bailiff collectors. Yes, they make a considerable effort to avoid canceling it. I find it truly appealing. It assists in maintaining your position. I understand that without doing so, they would be unable to compensate employees' salaries. I am pleased to have been able to contribute. I challenge you to become a member of that Everlast gym. However, I would advise against entering that building under any circumstances, even if pursued by a lion.

Thank you for the reviews on here but I decided to visit myself and see if it was worth joining . My summary is that it is expensive and offers nothing outstanding to justify the expense . If anything , it’s the opposite. The pool area is not great and the spa area is out of action . The person who showed me round did say that renovations were happening before the end of this year but could not say when or what those renovations would look like . I smell a rat as they are running out of year . It was also mentioned that the entire gym would be closed down during this period of renovation … so that’s another reason not to join. Given it’s a bit shoddy and other gyms have better facilities for lower membership I asked for discount options but there were none that applied . That’s fine , as there’s plenty more gyms in the area but the lack of staff flexibility to negotiate a discount at a gym that is failing seems shortsighted to me . Oh , I asked about the wifi as sometimes after a session I might set myself up and do a work meeting from the cafe however I was told the wifi is pretty poor by my guide . For £65 a month the lacklustre services of this gym is a bit steep and given some stuff is out of order is crazy . Jog on Everlast gyms

Small gym, small weights section mainly running machine if you go morning its fine has a pool often dirty and steam and sauna but they are usually always closed now. The steam room is often dirty and all the tiles have fallen off, the showers are disgusting. Left this gym as the whole place needs a refurb since being taken over its got even worse was hoping when it became everlast they would do a refit but for the money its not worth it

I joined Roko on a 12 month membership - I didn’t really enjoy the gym, the classes were good but I didn’t really use the facilities much and I did not think it was worth £50 a month which you are then tied to on a contract. When it came to cancelling you have to give 3 months notice, of which you have to work this out yourself and get no reminders, and so you are effectively tied into a 15 month membership unless you remember after 9 months to cancel. When I gave my 3 months notice I was told that my last payment would be taken out in the July. However, when it came to June I emailed to confirm that my membership would still be cancelled. I then received an email saying that I hadn’t given my notice and my 3 months would then follow from that most recent email, which would have been 3 extra payments. They were quick to sort this out when I emailed with screenshotted proof that I had already given my 3 months notice - but I can’t help feeling this is something they do to a lot of people to get them to continue paying as I have read other reviews saying this and heard the same from other people unless it is brought up.

I only signed up this week so it’s difficult to comment on what it’s going to be like long term, but so far? What a place, honestly I’ve looked forward to coming every single day, class gym despite it being upstairs and relatively small, modern and up to date, friendly yet professional staff and the pool facilities are brilliant. At this price point Roko is a pure hidden gem in York.
