Creative Asian fare - "Asian fusion" is a curse in the United States, but evidently not in Edinburgh. Asian cuisines have mixed and fused across national borders for centuries, millennia, so it's only natural that human imagination would find more ways to combine delicious elements. Mirin is a positive force in the trajectory. Menu items smartly consider flavors and textures - noodles and dumpling skins are appropriately toothsome, broths are unctuous and deep. The few dishes that borrow Scottish elements are fun as well, like mac and cheese slider, Mirin's take on Scottish mac and cheese pie. Mutton is not my favorite, but others in my party enjoyed the caramelization on the meat in the mutton curry. If I left with one gripe, it can only be that when I eat Asian food (from any country), I have the ability to order a better balance of vegetables. The meat-heavy menu is perhaps the most Scottish aspect of this restaurant.

Booked for family birthday dinner and we went disappointed - fantastic meal enjoyed by each of us and lovely orange wine. Friendly and efficient service was great too Absolutely will return The handmade dumplings were brilliant t - the sauce yummy and the handmade noodles - equally tasty and original - good portion sizes then we had one each if the desserts to share - really enjoyed the flavours throughout

I finally made it to Mirin after months of planning! It was wonderful! We have originally tried to book just for 2 of us but they were full and the booking system is programmed not to undersell bigger tables, and right so as the place is tiny! Lucky another friend wanted to join and it turned out there was a table available for the 3 of us! All of the food has so much flavour! The wild boar dumplings, cured trout, sucking pig, noddles, friend potatoes (amazing!). We had a dessert, even tho we really didn’t need it! It was deconstructed pineapple cheesecake, delicious !! Service was friendly and fast even tho they were rushed off their feet. I can’t wait to go back!

It's westernised Asian food, at very high prices too. They claim to be a casual place but they're charging damn near fine dining prices, so it's rather confusing. Wild boar dumping filling was not flavourful at all, skin was overly chewy, Kaffir lime broth is quite good tho Monkfish skewer was well executed, a solid twist on a classic with nice flavours, however for fine dining standards the flavours don't harmonise enough. (And don't say oh but they are just a casual restaurant, they shouldn't be judged by fine dining standards. This single skewer was 16.5Β£, that's fine dining prices) Hand ripped noodles has a lot of chew but no bite, the noodles aren't as good as pomelo's, and for this tiny portion 19Β£ is crazy. What's worse is that the meat sauce is not Asian at all, it's a stereotypically sweet gooey pulled pork sauce of westernised Asian food. Suckling pork skin was quite good, but way too much like gel that covers everything else, and tonkotsu broth was tasteless. Tiny portion for 16Β£ Octopus fried rice, being a new item was actl quite good. You can't taste any octopus bits tho, and it's definitely not cos it's too tender. Instead there's some fish flakes. The crunchy bits were quite good Panan cotta was quite tasteless and not very good for the price Pineapple cheesecake was literally just whipped cream and pineapple I think it's way overhyped, and that's from someone whose favourite type of food is elevated classics. The food objectively is not particularly good, and the prices are just ridiculous. Not to mention the reservation is difficult to secure, although I have no idea why. (I heard they used to be quite good when they didn't do this overpriced small tapas things, and focused on ramen) Kaffir appears way too often in the menu, at least 3 of our dishes have Kaffir which is strong You can't have it both ways, pick a lane and get some decor if they're GG to be a fine dining place, or actually go casual and lower the prices.

A great selection of small plates with Asian inspired flavours. The wild boar and bacon dumplings, pigeon with haggis and hot chicken were our standout dishes. Make sure you make a reservation, we watched them turn away a few walk-ins.

I had dinner yesterday here, I could say that they serve the best ramen broth in Edinburgh. I ordered hot chicken ramen, it was so scrumptious. To be honest, I think the noodle is a little bit too chewy, but the have three different kinds of noodle, I will try the other two in my next visit. You have to book to eat here, or you may not have available seat. Thank you, I enjoyed my ramen so much.

Wow so many people told me about this place before I went. The food is impeccable like one of the best places I've been too. We had a variety of tapas and wine and it is so worth it. Make a reservation!!! This place is usually fully booked well in advance, walk ins are hard. Book in advance. It's so worth it

The waiting staff were attentive and nice. The place was small but lovely decor. The food was a mix. The pork dumplings and lobster tail starter was extremely tasty although the lobster was expensive for the very little you got. The Ramen was was not good in my opinion and the chicken served in the Ramen was rubbery. The pork Ramen was was tasty but the noddles not great.

New place for us so enjoyed a lunch and will return. Strong flavours. Both starters barbequed to perfection. Followed by a tonkotsu (soba) and shoyu (Udon) noodle broths. Both great. Both finished! Friendly staff tops it all off nicely.

The roe deer tartare and the dumplings were absolutely perfect. The chicken and pork dumplings were especially special. The only two negatives were 1) I ordered additional pork at Β£3.50 and was given a single slice of pork (can see in the photo) and it was slightly slow to order to begin with. Overall a pretty good experience.
