We did not stay here so I can't comment on the rooms Ate here on a Saturday night, 5 of us (no booking) They fitted us in at the bar area but we were kind of forgotten about. Service was friendly but very slow and very forgetful (we had to ask for things 3 times over before they appeared) Food was good and portions were large Wouldn't go out of my way to visit again but if I was nearby I might pop in

I called the Sun Inn earlier in the day to book a table, specifically asking whether roasts would still be available when we arrived. I was told they were serving them until 3pm. We arrived at 2:30pm, placed our order straight away, only for the waitress to return and tell us they had already run out of roasts. My next choice was the chicken dish, also unavailable. At that point I settled for the rib-eye steak. For Β£37 (including peppercorn sauce), I was expecting something high-quality. Instead, it looked more like a thin, supermarket-style steak, closer to a sizzle steak than a proper rib-eye. The portion was small enough that had I just gone with the salad option, it would have felt like daylight robbery for the price. To give credit where itβs due, the venue itself has a lovely vibe and the staff were friendly and helpful. But the overall experience, driving 30 minutes based on a recommendation, being unable to order either of the two dishes we actually came for, and then being served a disappointing and overpriced alternative left us feeling let down. Unfortunately, we wonβt be rushing back.

Had lunch here today, was fantastic. From the welcome, service and food we highly recommend. We were in the old part of the building which we prefer, the fire was on and Xmas decorations made it all feel very welcoming. Lovely atmosphere with lots of filled tables and service was perfect Highly recommend The Sun Inn

I had breakfast here with colleagues today, and I have to say, the service was first class. We really felt looked after. The food was delicious too and came quickly. We had the full monty and the quality was exceptional. I would highly recommend if you're local, it's even worth travelling for. An easy 5/5 review.

Don't waste your money booking a room. Absolutely disgusting, carpets gross, mattress gross, bathroom worn down and grubby room stunk like sewer. We checked in late, around 9pm and by the time we decided we couldn't stay there, the staff were all gone and the place locked up. In the morning when I returned to "check out" the manager came to the room and agreed it wasn't good at all. She assured me that they would authorize a refund through booking.com but as of yet they have failed to do that. The good reviews they have in rooms must be fake a they are so far from the truth its not funny. The irony is that a few hundred dollars spent would transform these rooms. Such a shame and such a waste of money. They also state they're a 4 star facility but in actual fact they are a 2 star facility. That is also a stretch. I held of leaving reviews to see if a refund was forthcoming but as they are choosing to ignore the issue then this is all I got.

was served the tiniest fish portion with just a handful of chips - it wouldnt even have passed as a child's portion - nothing short of disgraceful. dont know what has happened here as the portion sizes used to be fantastic and whilst never cheap, were always good value. the dining room was stinking of soot / smoke also so if they cant even afford to get the chimney swept, it doesn't bode well. massive potholes in the car park also...

We came here for my husband's birthday and we were so disappointed. The food and service were among the worst we have experienced in a long time. We arrived and asked for a highchair for our baby which came and was dirty. Drinks took their time to arrive and we ordered pre nibbles which consisted of two slices of focaccia, half a tin of chopped tomatoes and a couple of pieces of butter 40 minutes after we sat down. The olives on the menu were missing but after asking (and no apology from staff) some olives from a jar appeared. My daughter's meal arrived with the nibbles and my husband asked twice where our food was. Again, no apology despite our baby finishing her meal in the wait. Service was lacking around us which was noticeable with two waitresses wandering up and down the room but looking bored and uninterested. No baby changing facility and average food. First and last time near this place. Don't understand the ratings unless these are paid for reviews.

My partner and I have visited here a few times recently. Always a beautiful meal, idyllic setting and friendly staff. Tonight we dined as part of our Christmas to each other. We were disappointed when my partners meal arrived very cold. The rice part was very hot however the lamb shoulder was cold. I tried it and agreed that it was cold indeed. We managed to catch the attention of the girl working there who apologised and returned it to the kitchen. We were disappointed that this meant I was left eating alone not knowing how long his meal would take. Although it was returned to us now heated it meant the rice was exceptionally hot. Also because of the short amount of time it meant it was probably warmed up very quick by microwave. Not being the type to return food unless absolutely necessary, we would have appreciated if maybe he was offered another refreshment whilst waiting or perhaps a dessert to share on the house by way of apology.

Went for my birthday. It was a cold evening so sat in the conservatory where it was warmer. Had fish and chips, and the fish filled the plate. It was enormous, it could feed two! Pudding was great too, sticky toffee pudding. As it was my birthday the staff put a sparkler in my pudding and sang happy birthday to me. Overall a great experience. I will be back.

Amazing find whilst on a work weekend in dalkeith. Beautiful food at an excellent price. I am vegan and the chef prepared menu items for me to accommodate me as well as one the most delicious curry's I've had that wasn't on the menu. Staff are really helpful and friendly. Would gladly return.
