We ordered the egg fried rice, chilli chicken, and a Thali meal—all were full of flavor and really satisfying. The staff were kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely a spot worth checking out!

A cozy, conveniently located Indian restaurant. We tried South Indian food which was ok but it was the dal makhani which stole the show. It’s a mid range restaurant so expect accordingly. Staff is super warm and attentive to your requirements. Would definitely revisit when we are in Edinburgh again.

Didn’t try many items, although the ones we tried were really good, South Indian food( masala dosa and mendhu vada) was very traditionally cooked, so was the indo-chinese chilli chicken. Service is a bit slow, waited 40 mins although there were just 2 people in the restaurant other than us. So make sure to order everything at once so that you don’t have to wait midway through for additional dishes.

Extremely disappointing experience at Golden Ambal in Edinburgh. I ordered the South Indian Thali (£16.95), and it was one of the worst meals I’ve had in a restaurant. The portion size was very small, and everything was completely tasteless. I specifically asked for the chicken curry to be made spicy, but it was prepared in such a way that it was practically inedible. The service was equally poor and felt discriminatory. Even though most tables were empty, I was seated alone in a corner, while another customer who arrived after me without any reservation was given a table in the middle. It was clear there was partiality being shown, even toward Indian customers, which was very disappointing. To make matters worse, I was served tap water full of floating particles (I’ve attached a photo), while other guests were given clean filtered water. For the price charged, I expected at least decent food and respectful service. Sadly, this place failed on both counts. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for authentic or good-quality South Indian food.

Lovely Indian restaurant on Leith Walk. Me and a friend shared the mixed golden ambal grill for our starter, which was a really generous portion and was very delicious. The dish was well presented, and came out sizzling hot. For our mains, I got the chicken dhansak which was phenomenal- it's one of the best curries i've ever had, just perfectly spiced and such. The restaurant is also BYOB, but also has a drinks menu so you can get wine there. The service took a while, but it was worth it, and our waitress was really kind. Highly recommend this place :)

Tasty and delicious South Indian food in Edinburgh. We went after reading the reviews on Google and it was worth it. Only minus is price. Their take away prices are very cheaper than dining in so plan accordingly. There is parking 5 minutes away for free after 5:30pm. Take left from Tesco express and you will be able to find it.

If you’re hungry, but not sure what for, I would highly recommend coming here. The food was delicious and came out the kitchen hot and quick. The staff was very friendly and kind, they kept the kitchen open for us. I would definitely recommend!

Very good place to enjoy Indian food. Balanced taste of Southern and Northern cuisines of Bharat. I ate medhu vada with chutney. Ordered sweet+ salty lassi. Kadai chicken and keema rice. Tandoori roti
