Nice service staff and a well fitted out wee restaurant but the food is totally bland and the menu is overly complicated and pretentious. The garlic noodles had absolutely no flavour to them whatsoever and the fried chicken was tasteless. The sticky aubergine was meh but the sea bass was not bad. The ramen of the week on offer was ‘cheeseburger’ which didn’t appeal to me… personally this style of Japanese fusion didn’t work for us at all but I wish Daku all the best.

Daku have just recently reopened with a new small plates menu which I absolutely loved. Loads of options with Japanese ingredients. Great vegan options and the staff were so helpful talking through the menu. Really good cocktails, food and service. Love the decor too and new cocktail bar in the next room looks great too. Would highly recommend the fried tofu, rice balls and aubergine.

Wasn’t super impressed unfortunately. The food was ok but there was only one main that was vegan, a special and little sides, so there’s not a lot for me to want to rush back for. The agadashi tofu side could have been much better. My partner had a tuna dish I think he got bored of it quite quickly. I second one of your previous reviews about being hungry again after a couple hours due to a lack of protein in the vg dish. We didn’t have cocktails because our friends had eaten here and said they weren’t worth the price. There appeared to be no Japanese people eating or working here which is not a good sign. The staff were very nice and attentive. Overall I like the vibe of this place and it would be nice if it stayed in the area but they need to up there game.

We tried Daku for the first time and it didn't disappoint. Quite a small menu but the variety caterers for all. They also have some specials each day so change things up if you visit frequently. Our mains were served with a miso soup and some pickled veg with was unexpected but a nice touch. We really enjoyed our food and found it authentic to what you would get in Japan. Definitely going to return in the future. They also have a decent cocktail menu which would be rude not to try!

I loved this place so much and it just being a 5 min walk from my house is just the cherry on top! They've done so well to bring an authentic Japanese vibe to Vikki Road with a banging cocktail menu, a really well curated wine list (the alvarinho was so perfectly matched to the Asian flavours), and of course the fantastic and damn fine tasty food! Everything we had was so well prepared and packed so much flavour, with a wide variety of dishes to suit all palates. Extra special mention for the staff, from the excellent waiter, the feisty cocktail waitress, and the kitchen staff (may have been a chef but I'm not sure) who all spoke to us about the food and drinks. They were very knowledgeable and seemed genuinely happy in their roles which makes for a very welcoming and cosy vibe.
