Busy, long wait for coffee but food was really good. Coffee wasn’t to my liking and had a ‘unique’ flavour and thin, a bit disappointed

This is just about my favourite cafe in Edinburgh (and I reckon I’ve been to almost all of them!). The best staff, great coffee that unlike some other iconic Edinburgh cafes isn’t served too cold). And for me, the amount of space and decor inside, with so much light and great design is ideal.

As someone who reviews coffee professionally, I'm used to high standards. Artisan Roast on Leith Walk is a profound disappointment. They manage to ruin decent coffee with some of the worst service and attitude I've ever encountered. The overriding atmosphere here is one of cold, active dislike. The staff clearly view customers as an inconvenience, and the whole operation moves at a glacial pace. The wait for a simple order is inexcusable. It’s not just slow; it’s aggressively slow, suggesting a complete lack of urgency or care. But the real problem is the attitude. The worst offender is the man who appears to be the manager—the one with the ponytail and moustache. His demeanor is openly rude. He patrols the floor with an air of martyrdom, treating simple customer requests as massive personal affronts. If this is the leadership, it explains why the whole shop radiates hostility. The beans themselves are fine, but any subtle flavor notes are completely overshadowed by the miserable transaction. You cannot enjoy a product that arrives after a long wait, delivered by someone who seems to hate their job and your existence. The only bitterness here comes from the service, not the roast. Artisan Roast needs to decide if they are running a coffee shop or a performance art piece about contempt. Until they learn that basic manners are an important part of hospitality, they deserve no business. Save your time and your good mood—go somewhere else. Avoid.

Amazing place with a warm, cosy atmosphere. Fabiano and Polya are always super friendly and welcoming. The coffee is excellent, the pastries are delicious. It’s one of the best spots in Leith!

Called in for a very smooth coffee along with a delicious cinnamon bun before heading home. Excellent, friendly and efficient service. Will definitely return when we come back to Edinburgh.

Took a mega dump, didn’t flush first time. Staff member had to help. Amazing 9/10

Vegetarian café with a small but very tasty savoury menu. Good selection of cakes and slices. Great coffee and hot chocolate. Tea is good, teabags rather than loose leaf so small disappointment for me there but it is good quality teabags from Pekoe Tea. Light and spacious, good atmosphere.
