I joined Total Fitness Prenton and the experience was poor from day one. Sign-up was misleading. The staff member only gave me two verbal choices: “12 months or no contract.” I wasn’t shown ANY contract, didn’t sign anything, and he didn’t show me a screen with the real membership options. I later found out there are multiple tiers (1-month, PAYG, off-peak, student, etc.) which he hid from me. I genuinely had no other choice and was pushed into the most expensive option. This goes against CMA guidance on fair contracts. Support was awful. I was told a PT would help me, but after one short chat (interrupted by a phone call I had to take), there was no follow-up, no Boost induction, nothing. The gym is huge, I kept getting lost, and members helped me more than staff, who stayed behind the desk talking. Gym floor was chaotic. The dumbbell area was messy, with weights scattered and in the wrong places. For a new member already feeling overwhelmed, this made using the free weights area even more stressful. My health needs were ignored. I deal with anxiety, dizziness, sensory overwhelm, low blood pressure and asthma. When I felt dizzy, no staff checked on me or offered help. Café information was wrong. I was told it was open until 6:30pm, but hot food actually stops at 3:30pm with no signs. Because of this wrong info, I had to leave the gym while dizzy and walk to McDonald’s. The cold set off my asthma badly. Completely avoidable. The manager was dismissive. When I tried to explain the situation, he cut me off with excuses like “I know the maths” instead of actually helping. No staff presence. Every visit, staff were at reception chatting. No one checked the gym floor, no one helped new members, no real support. For £63/month, this gym is not worth it: misleading sign-up, no contract shown, hidden membership options, poor support, wrong information, unsafe situations, and staff who don’t seem to care. I cannot recommend Total Fitness Prenton.

Great gym , but other Total Fitness centres have more free weights, you have to hunt around and at Prenton they aren't always put away when people have finished working out, whereas at Chester and others in the group I have visited that isn't an issue. Other than that it's great.

Ive been a member for many years, don't listen or ask members about changes just incorporated. The roof could do with repairing/replacing, not great to do classes with water dripping everywhere. The gym area is good with lots of choice, need to look at all aspects of gym for everyone's enjoyment

I was a member of this gym for 3½ years and i absolutely loved it. The facilities are always clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere is welcoming. The staff are excellent, always friendly which made every visit enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the poolside area including the sauna, steam room, hydro pool, and main pool were all fantastic and the squash courts. All which were a real highlight of my time here. Special shoutout to Jim, an all-out friendly guy who would always take the time to chat and check in on me, and to Kev, who not only checked in and talked with me but also gave me great advice in all areas, more recently with my swimming preparation for becoming a beach lifeguard. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a motivating and positive place to work out!

Great gym, I’m there most days. There is hardly ever a queue for any of the equipment, it’s always a clean environment and the music is good. It’s nice to see recently there has been loads of renovations and new equipment being installed which makes the place look even better however I wish a bit of money would be invested into the air conditioning. Most other gyms on the Wirral are pretty cold and this makes you want to work out more and get a sweat on. You don’t have to even exercise to get a sweat on at Total Fitness and this makes it really uncomfortable to exercise in. The summer months are absolutely hell. Please can this be looked into

Awful gym - here's why- loads of broken machines, missing needles for the weight machines- floor staff laugh when you ask for them saying, 'oh yeah they're always getting robbed'. On my recent visit there was not 1 needle in the upper gym Foaming hydropool which burns your eyes and consistently left me with a rash, cloudy/dirty main pool that has limited access as its used for swimming lessons after 3pm and all weekend....Same situation in the family pool which is taken up by swimming lessons from 3-8 and all weekend the swim lessons for kids are their priority- not their members. They don't care about the paying members! No lane swimming rules- people walk up and down the middle speed lane- chatting when there are clearly 4-5 people in there trying to swim. Slow front crawlers in the fast lane and people walking sideways up and down the slow lane. Water quality is poor and always left me with skin problems...Unlike with my new pool. The upper gym smells like mould. The women's section is massively neglected, the renovation is very cheap- which is why we held onto our memberships for longer- to see if there would be an improvement. There wasn't. You pay for a pool you can hardly access, machines that don't work or have missing parts....What's the point? They charge the highest rates at this gym for the Peninsular outside of Thornton hotel and spa....Not worth it and I massively regret holding onto my membership for so long.

Good gym with swimming pool, sauna, steam room, hydro pool and undergoing some much needed renovations of the gym area. Hopefully they get to the spa area next. Changing areas are of grave concern as there is very limited space for children to change and adults and children are forced to change in the same open areas, this makes me very uncomfortable and I would never have joined had I known this.

We cancelled our membership in July. On joining the gym it was great but after a few months we regretted it. Partner using the women’s area found a couple of men using that area on more than one occasion. Gym equipment was broken and no date of getting fixed. Hydro pool was out of action for a while. Certain reception staff need to learn to smile, they are first point of contract for any business. Instead one regular receptionist is rude, ignores you when you ask for help the list can go on. The equipment was in dire need of updating, but the most annoying this was people not putting the equipment away after using it.
