They had beautiful decorations up so we wanted to pop in for a few pints. We had kids but they were super helpful with explaining the rules and letting us enjoy ourselves. Didn’t eat much more than some bar food, the back of the restaurant looks enjoyable as well.

We randomly dropped into the Mitre Bar when visiting Edinburgh this weekend for a few pints. We had our dog with us and on realising it's a dog friendly pub decided to stay for some food as well. The food was excellent and service was very quick given how busy they were as most of the pub was full of people eating. Prices were reasonable for city centre. Our dog was also given a waterbowl which was thoughtful of the staff

The bar staff was great, but the manager apparently they don’t know how to keep inventory… They were out of at least a third of their menu items and additionally, they were out of bitters… a core ingredient of the cocktails on their menu and (and cocktails general). The poor staff was frustrated and apologetic, but the manager is apparently incompetent. Kids loved the fish and chips, we enjoyed the three bar menu items actually available (haloumi cheese, nachos, sausage roll)

Beautiful pub but incredulous slow service, no water offered, didn’t come back to see how the food was incl the toughest and smallest 27 pound steak I have ever seen! Fish and chips was better but couldn’t eat 1/4 of the fish as it was deep fried to the point of no return. No dessert offered and bbq had to go back to the bar to get our own beer refills and pay our dinner bill!

Great place to sit and drink some ale. The bartender was cool and the restroom was clean. I would definitely come back. Update... Delicious steak pie! You can't go wrong here.

Nice bar with nice customer service. Visited with friends during my time in Edinburgh. They have very few collections of non-alcoholic ciders which is not the case with other bars but keeping that aside, every other aspect of the bar is superb.

Fabulous old pub. Very busy but we managed to get a table and had a lovely Scottish meal, Cullen Skint and Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, delicious. We had 2 dogs in our party who were made to feel so welcome with all staff makng a great fuss of them.

Update, I said I would go back and I did. Watched the Queens journey along the Royal Mile from here today. Afterwards we raised a toast in her name and had a meal. Highly recommend this pub, excellent staff and food. I really liked it. Lovely looking pub, good vibe and a good selection of beers. I'm going back before we leave Edinburgh this weekend.

Nice pub with dining area, definitely overpriced but at least their food was nice. Both our servers were polite and helpful, the kitchen did have a lot of 86s but the waitress made sure to inform us in advance. Steak ale pie looked better than it tasted, but again, it was not bad.

Really Nice restaurant. The position is great. We order typical food (smoked salmon, the Scottish pies ..) and it was delicious.
