Staff were amazing as always. My wisdom tooth didnβt want to lose its personal game of tug-of-war, but the staff explained everything beforehand, kept me updated throughout the procedure, and told me everything I needed for aftercare. Iβm forever thankful to the staff who treated me and the additional team who assisted. Thank you so much!

Unprofessional and neglectful. The first consultant didn't care about my paperwork because it's from abroad, she literally told me I had to convince her there and then that I really had a problem, regardless that I had my referral from the GP. The next one lectured me about why I didn't hand them in, why they were not on my file, she couldn't believe that the other one said what she said. So I was the stupid again. They asked me to brought them in next time, and we could decide if I needed a surgery. Meanwhile, they advised me not eating solid food and taking 3 Advils a day. Instead of getting my appointment now, I got a letter they removed me from the waiting list. So I guess I should live on painkillers and liquid diet for the rest of my life. It's cheaper than treating my for sure. Obviously, nobody cares about complaints and looking into what their doctors do.

Iβve had an extremely poor and unprofessional communication, daughter have been removed from the waiting list because trains were cancelled and I could not get through on the phone that morning as βno one was available due to unforeseen circumstancesβ. Have been accused from not trying to phone the next day with a reason. Perhaps if someone was working that morning, you would have got the reason. An absolute abrupt, constantly talking over me, clearly lacking listening skills. The outcome: put back at the bottom of the Waiting list. Must be when daughter turns 40. Thank you for your sincere help.

Does no one answer the phone in this place?!?! I have tried numerous times and at various periods during the day and nobody ever answers the phone!! I have been waiting over 8 months for an initial appointment and havenβt even managed to speak to a receptionist so not holding out much hope for a treatment package!

Scheduling system is broken since the start of the pandemic. Nobody answers the phone most of the days. I have not seen my orthodontist for 2 month and when I finally spoke to someone, I was told that it's normal and they are behind the schedule. 1 month later I managed to get through again and was told that it is not normal, that there was a mistake and I should get an appointment as soon as possible. They at least apologized at that point. Before the pandemic, all booking was automated. Now it just does not work.

In 2006 My dentist advised me that I should either pay him the amount of a minivan or to be transferred into the care of the University of Dentistry as an outpatient. - not a difficult choice. My teeth were deemed in such a state that up & coming orthodontists and Dental Care consultants could practise on me. After an 1.5 hours of interview and assessment that same year I was accepted and my treatment started in early 2007. I should back up a bit. This institute is NOT a free for all, not everyone will be able to enter into a program like I was. They do perform emergency treatments, but regular visitors are not part of this institute. They do not replace your normal NHS or Private dentist. My treatment in 2007 & 2008 was minimal - many consultancies, measurements and towards the end of 2008 my first real visit. I have been a regular with dentists and have had many. Good and bad. However the one before moving to Edinburgh has only been able to plug holes if you will. So I was a little wary. But I needn't be - the care at Prof Ibbetson Dental Institute for Dentistry is brilliant. They make you feel at ease and use the very latest in local anestheasia. As I said they try to make you at ease, until you have to get a full treatment and boy did I have some treatment! I will give a small overview of what I had so far in the last 4 years Root Canals (about 5 or 6) Nerve Cuts Gum Slices Removal of old fillings - all of them Holing and roughing molars Cleansing gums, teeth and jaw. Veneers on the Front row Caps on the bottom front row Bridges to support the veneers Cement for caps and molars hoods Gold fittings on all molars ... and many many many needles in my palate, gum and jaw to numb for treatment. Only on some occasions it really hurt, (mostly the needles) but hey they are dentists in training and always under supervision of a consultant! Anyone who has been to the dentist and had a filling or a root-canal treatment will know what it is like - I have had this nearly every 2-3 months. - Thinking about it does make my claw clench up. The biggest drawback regarding this 'stretched treatment' They will not give you a guarantee, but if anything is amiss you can always call upon them to fix it. - if it is beyond your own dentist's skill or knowledge. I had my problems, but they weren't anything too major. - Just badly timed. I lost a molar fitting while holidaying abroad, I cracked my Front Veneers twice, just when the weekend started and a cemented metal bridge that gave way on Boxing Day... whoopsie.. But I was able to make an emergency appointment the day after and all was good again. If you (like me) struggled with really bad set of teeth, ground up and anxiety induced acid erosion and possibly facing a bill nearing the Β£30k. Try asking your dentist if it would be possible to become a subject at the Dental Institute.
