I usually go once a year for my annual eye examination at Vision Express on Frederick Street in Edinburgh. I always find the staff there very welcoming and diligent. I had to make an urgent appointment because of a sudden eye condition couple of days ago. Not only I was seen on the day but the optician was very thorough. He took the time to explain everything to me and advised me of the further steps plus made referrals to concerned. Absolute pleasure to speak with the staff and I certainly won’t be going to any other places for my eye checks.
Lovely staff, have been going here for over a decade and lost count of the different contact lenses we tried to make sure I get the best and most comfortable wear possible. Now I get 20/20 vision, even with my astigmatism :) also the staff here helped me diagnose the symptoms of my headaches, something that the GP called "a normal issue at your age". Thanks guys!
Eye accident appointment 7 Dec 2022: on holiday 2.5 weeks before I had incurred a coronal lesion, an accidental collision with a falling iron plumber's rod. On holiday on a remote farm I did not seek treatment as the eye was only blinded for a few seconds, a hospital was miles away and I didn't want to make a fuss with my host. But the eye trauma did not improve with use of eye washes and over the counter drops from Walgreens. Diziness and nausea were complicating matters - I knew an optometrist was required asap on my return home for a proper eye examination and diagnosis of the injury. To my knowledge Frederick Street Vision Express has the best eye treatment team in Edinburgh - I had visited them previously for an eye infection early lockdown 2020; I was impressed and grateful for the competence, organization, courtesy and consideration of the team at that time. I was not disappointed on this second visit to the Frederick Street centre - again calm, prompt, kindly, compassionate service, with expertise, confidence and genuine concern - how to deal with this eye trauma, what to expect in the next 5 weeks, and the perfect drops Hycosan Extra drops for optimal healing. 5* for London shops, NOT so nice experience in this shop. When I entered to inquire about daily contact lenses, with my own prescription, the consultant informed me that this was against the law. How is this possible considering that I purchase my contact lenses in this way in London? She was acting as like she didn't understand me, which also annoyed me. Pretending… We should be more accepting of other nations, in my opinion. She never heard the term "mail"?! I don’t think so!
I was desperate to have an optician check my eye as I had something stuck under my lid. I looked for many hours to find a place to do it with not much luck. Most places were not going to see me because they were full; I was in pain though and I knew it needed to be seen to urgently. I walked into this shop and was very kindly received by one assistant (Andrea) who felt sincerely considerate. He arranged an emergency appointment as soon as it was possible, making room between already a full schedule. The optician was truly wonderful and she managed to remove the object from my eye and within no longer than 10 minutes the awful pain was relieved. I would like to thank the staff for your compassionate way with me, it was not a treatment I received from many other places when I looked in desperation.
All well and fine until my glasses needed to be repaired. To make a long story short; Vision express does not have any custom service at all. Their common custom service doesn't respond to e-mails and the Frederick Street brand does not know anything about helping a customer, even when my problem was reported 4 weeks ahead of my visit. Avoid and stay away - that's my advice.
