I would recommend staying at this hostel but only if you book a small room simply due to the amazing location. We stayed in a 20 bed dorm and it was pod style, the room was extremely hot every night and their was lots of noise (as expected) but I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone that’s a light sleeper. The showers were also consistently cold and the floors were always wet in the bathrooms which could easily be fixed with more frequent cleaning. The staff were really friendly and the pool table was awesome.

Kickass Grassmarket Hostel truly offers a fantastic experience! The staff are warm and welcoming, the beds are clean and comfortable, and the overall ambience is cool and relaxing. The restrooms and shower areas are generally very clean, and the locker facility adds great convenience. The small café near the entrance is also a nice touch for quick snacks and coffee. Plus, the location is amazing—most attractions are within walking distance. Just a couple of suggestions to make the stay even better: The restroom could use a quick check for spider webs to keep it spotless. Soundproof windows would be a great improvement, as street noise at night can be clearly heard in the rooms.

If you are travelling on a budget and want a reasonable hostel to live in - Kick Ass Grassmarket should be your choice. This was my first time staying at a hostel and the stay was fairly decent. The management and staff were really kind and proactive. Internet (free WiFi) was really slow, though. Maybe that's something the management can work towards.

I thought this was the best of all the hostels in the old town. Walk outside and you are in the grassmarket square, directly underneath the imposing Edinburgh Castle. The shower and bathroom were good, with plenty of individual bathrooms. The bed was a type of pod with enough room to sleep, hang up my shirts and sweatshirt, blanket, pillow, and convenient shelf for my belongings and to write my postcards. USB and charging port. There is a regular light and also a cool color changing light for fun! There is a sliding gate or curtain that gives you privacy, however I woke up in a pool of sweat on a cool day, so I felt I needed to keep it open a smidge so I don't suffocate. There is a vent, but a small fan would have been "cool." Felt very safe, locker for belongings. The staff, AMAZING! while they joked that they were not well taken care of by management, they took great pride in their work, and made every effort to accommodate any and all requests as I saw it. Extremely helpful and friendly when I asked directions or had questions. Available at all hours. Thank you guys for a memorable time in Edinburgh!

Good experience for a first time in a hostel. The location is excellent and staff friendly. I stayed in a pod room. The pod was ok, pretty comfortable and nice privacy. The ventilation is pretty bad tho, so at night you get sweaty if the curtain is closed. First night people were quite noisy at night, you hear every little thing so people coming back from bars at night is noticeable. Second night was a lot more calm, so depends on the people staying there with you. The corridor with the toilets does smell, but otherwise they were quite clean. Overall good value for money!

Absolutely fantastic experience! This was my first time travelling solo so I was a bit nervous but the staff immediately made me feel very comfortable and were really welcoming. The value for money is absolutely great, I only paid £19 a night but would have happily paid more after visiting. The location is perfect too, right in the heart of the grassmarket area, close to lots of lovely bars and shops and obviously the castle which is a stone's throw away! I stayed in a 12 bed female dorm and it was very quiet with plenty of room. I'll definitely come back here next time I'm in Edinburgh :)

What a gorgeous hostel! I booked the same day that I was going to be staying, and I was extremely nervous as I had never stayed in a hotel or hostel alone before. But upon arrival the man at the desk was incredibly attentive, answered every question I had (especially the daft ones!) And made sure I was settled in. The breakfast was lovely, I felt incredibly secure in my dorm and the toilets were kept impeccably clean. All in all, an amazing stay that I absolutely would recommend and will also be using myself again in future.

I had a great time at this hostel! The vibe was really social and I met a lot of people in the kitchen/lounge area. I also liked the privacy of the bed pods, although the door to the room was a little loud (still slept fine, though). Also, it's in a great location.

Great room - private 6 bed with view of castle. Good size room with two outlets per bed which is nice. Great location. Easy check in and out. Staff was fine. Didn’t like the toilet shower layout or the fact that you couldn’t adjust the temperature on the shower. Overall a decent choice

The standard of cleanliness in their rooms ,toilet and showers is good. Well done to the cleaners . The mattress and pillow was comfortable. The only thing I couldn't shut one window and I was cold coughing most of the night. Otherwise I've enjoyed my one night stay. The stuff in reception area are nice and friendly willing to help.
