Our group made an appointment for the chocolate making experiece via Viator and were very glad that we did! We booked the afternoon and it was the perfect way to break up the day. The tour was broken up into three parts -history/lecture, the making of chocolate, and chocolate tasting. The history and lecture was great background for the next two parts. We learned about the history of chocolate, got to taste the way the Aztecs prepared chocolate, and learned about the different types of cocoa beans and chocolate around the world. We also learned about some of the larger producers of chocolate and how they make their product. In the making of portion we were led to small stainless steel workstations where we were able to make our label, choose a form and make out chocolate bar out of milk or dark chocolate. We went through how the cocoa beans were roasted and ground and then added to fats and sugar to make chocolate. The workstations were just large enough and we learned about some of the techniques of making chocolate. While our chocolate bars were cooling, we went into the tasting room. There was discussion about different tastes and levels of cacao and how it affected the flavor along with the added sugars. We were led through a number of types of chocolate. Afterwards, we could choose any of the 30-ish samples available. The tasting card and the individual chocolate tags made for some cool souvenirs. Our bars were done and came to us wrapped in cellophane and packaged with other tags we made. Overall, great experience and a couple of hours well spent if you like/love chocolate or just curious about learning One warning that they do not ship outside of the UK, so if there is something you see in the shop, get it and ship it home yourself!

What a great experience.we enjoyed learning about the cocoa and making our own chocolate bar with plenty to add. Was interesting to taste cold chocolate prepared old fashion way and also taste dark, milk and white chocolate with diferent flavour. Our favourite was the dark with scotch pine and Cadbury chocolate.

A really worthwhile and interesting experience. Kelly was brilliant with our tour, trying the different chocolates with the guided tasting session was the highlight, but we also learnt alot about its origins and varieties from different countries. Was also fun making your own chocolate to take home. Definitely recommend booking a tour if you have a spare couple of hours on a rainy day.

This was probably my favourite part of my trip to Edinburgh! The chocolate tour is SO much fun. Our guide, Katie, was really friendly and funny. You get so much free chocolate, hot chocolate, etc to taste. It’s such good value for money, and you even get to take home your own bar you make!! A really great way to spend some time if it’s raining in the city, a real highlight in Edinburgh.

We attended the chocolate and wine experience on Dec. 2, 2022. The whole presentation was very well done, very interesting, and a lot of fun, and worth the price of the Wine & Chocolate Experience. Our host was wonderful. Very personable and friendly. We are from the Massachusetts, in United States, and this was our first trip to Scotland. We found out about the Chocolatarium on line while searching for things to do in Edinburgh. The tour and hands on participation lasted about 1.5 hours. You got to make your own chocolate candy and take it with you at the end. We had a very nice time there. Thanks to all the staff there. Bob & Sue Massachusetts, USA

Had such a fantastic time at the The Chocolatarium. All the chocolate was delicious - from the rich hot chocolate we were given first, to the ruby chocolate drops we were given at the end. The talk about chocolate was really interesting and timed well. Making my own chocolate was fun and the choice of toppings/fillings was good. They had a choice of milk, dark or white chocolate to make. The third part of the tour was in the tasting room. They gave us 4 chocolates from around the world and it was really interesting to see the differences in their taste. The only chocolate I didn't like was the 100% cacao - it was very bitter. We then got to choose as many different chocolates as we wanted to taste. Some of the flavours were very unique, whilst they had others that were common like raspberry and orange. Very good value for money and a fantastic experience for anyone visiting Edinburgh.

INCREDIBLE! We loved every single second of the tour, it was better than we ever imagined. A great balance between facts, history and then more practical aspects like the chocolate making and then tasting sessions. All included in the price. So worth the money for sure. Katie was an incredible tour guide. So full of life and kept it super interactive and exciting!
