   I was coming from a very long journey when I lost my water bottle on the way. I randomly went into White Lion and asked for a glass of tap water. The bartender kindly gave us iced tap water with a slice of lemon (probably noticing the tiredness on our faces), and we were expecting to be charged — but he said, “It’s on the house.” It was one of the nicest gestures a stranger has ever shown me.

   First visit for many years,but still maintains it's old character,and with a good selection of ales,cider and spirits.A quaint spiral metal staircase leads down to the gents toilet,and it's upstairs to the ladies.Welll worth a visit.

   The White Lion remains a proudly traditional pub which means more 'spit 'n sawdust' and less chain fake pub. That brings it a charm of its own. Good selection of real ales and whilst not themost spacious of public houses, this does mean that every visit is quite 'intimate'. If you are not feeling intimact, then seating spills out onto the pavement area should that be preferred. A dying breed these days so support and enjoy whilst you still can.

   I know of few pubs with so much character, and being in the centre you never know what to expect. The locals are friendly, the staff are fantastic, and it’s reasonably priced for central Bristol. The perfect place for a quick drink while passing through town!
