Front desk. Guy more interested in flirting with females leaving. Little to no information given about hotel. Disappointed with lack of festive decorations. Previous years there was a Christmas tree in lobby. None this year. Room was amazing. Few first world issues but nothing takes away from a fantastic apartment. Had lunch in the Register Club. Food was good, two cocktails were good, though very small. The festive effort next door at Gleneagles put the Grand to shame.

From the moment we checked in, The Edinburgh Grand showed us exactly why it stands apart. The service was exceptional at every turn, and the team made us feel as though we were longtime regulars rather than first-time guests. Jo at the front desk deserves a special mention. She is easily one of the finest hotel professionals we have ever encountered, and as Titanium Bonvoy members, we have met quite a few. Her kindness and interest in all of her guests set the tone for our entire stay. The Register Club quickly became our nightly ritual. The staff there was so genuinely lovely that we found ourselves returning each evening without hesitation. Lady Libertine, just off the lobby, was the perfect place to unwind with a drink when we arrived. Both spaces capture that classic Edinburgh charm while delivering modern comfort. Our room suited our family perfectly, offering both style and function in a way that made it feel like a true home base. Even the gym felt brand new, as if it had been completed the week before—spotless, well-equipped, and surprisingly inviting for vacation workouts. The Edinburgh Grand earns every bit of its five stars, and frankly, the rating system feels a touch inadequate. We cannot wait to return.

We have used this hotel a few times, always excellent. On this occasion, last weekend, was something special though. Jo on the desk asked us why we had come and I told her I was attending a match with my grandson who lives in Leith. I showed her a picture of him, 20 yrs old and has CP, he can’t walk or talk, is wheelchair bound but loves football. She said her son, Matthew was at the front welcoming guests and she would get him. Matthew said he knew some of the Hibs players and he would try and get something for my grandson. The next day he only turns up with a fully signed Hibs shirt. I was absolutely blown away. He said he didn’t do much but I couldn’t thank him enough, I couldn’t believe a 17 yr old would go out of his way, what a credit to his mum and The Grand Hotel. You don’t lose a person like this, think on Grand Hotel! He said he did something small, but doing something small can have a massive effect on someone else and it most certainly did. I am so impressed with this 17 yr old, most are just out for themselves. I will never forget this act of kindness, it more than made our weekend extra special. Thank you so much.

Excellent reception! Although we arrived early, they welcomed us warmly and prepared the rooms for us. They even upgraded our room, which was a wonderful surprise. The hotel’s location is truly fantastic, and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. A special thanks to the young lady who received us — her hospitality was outstanding. Fahad & Maha

We loved this staff and location. We traveled here from America for our honeymoon and they made us feel like celebrities. The food upstairs was great, our room was lovely. The location couldn’t be any better right next to Waverly and the buses. We will always remember our stay here, and the staff. Joe was the best, and she deserves more than money could buy. She’s one of the main reasons we loved our stay so much. Thanks Joe!!! Much love to this place and we hope to come back someday.

I’m just off the phone to the hotel, having booked a nights stay, and felt compelled to leave a review. Robbie has to be one of the nicest people I’ve ever dealt with. Could not have been more polite, helpful and friendly if he tried! What a darling. I’m ever so grateful for good service, especially in a world where standards are sadly diminishing. A credit and an asset to the place. Thank you very much. Really looking forward to our stay.

It was a very lovely stay, front desk were very attentive. We were on our honeymoon a bottle of red wine and complimentary upgrade were provided upon check in. Location is perfect, very close to the train station and walkable to pretty much everywhere if you are tourists. Room is we’ll make maintained, good mix of modern and old fashion. We cannot wait for our next visit :)

We just stayed at the hotel to celebrate a wedding and had the most amazing trip. The hotel is beautiful. - Rooms have everything you need - The staff are lovely and nothing is too much hassle. -The hotel is dog friendly and (while a grown up hotel) well equipped for children too. -Breakfast was great -It’s very central location wise, right next to the station and with great bars and restaurants literally on the doorstep. -The event rooms are also gorgeous and fantastic 360 views from the penthouse apartment and terrace. We loved it and can’t fault it!

We stayed in the gorgeous penthouse suite for two nights, before and after our wedding in July. The rooms were elegant and spotless; housekeeping did an incredible job of preparing the rooms for us. It was the perfect place to get ready for the wedding and to celebrate our day in luxurious surroundings! The views from the balcony are probably some of the best in the city - truly stunning. The views inside the hotel, from their grand stairwell balconies, are very special too! The day after our wedding, we held a brunch for our guests (around 30 people) in the Games Room. The brunch, served buffet style, was incredible! It had every element of a Scottish breakfast, plus much more. It even had choices for our vegan and gluten-free guests. The service was wonderful. A big thank you to all the staff at the Cheval, and a special thanks to Barbara for coordinating our stay and event.

This is an excellent hotel in more ways than one. Exceptionally clean and well appointed. Spacious rooms. Such helpful and friendly lobby staff. Very central location - safe, clean, walkable. Restaurant upstairs is excellent. Will stay here again no doubt! (Family of four with two school aged children)
