   Ross Fountain is one of the most beautiful and iconic features of Princes Street Gardens, and it’s an absolute must‑see when visiting Edinburgh. The fountain’s ornate Victorian design is stunning up close, and it creates a perfect backdrop for photos. Especially with Edinburgh Castle rising dramatically behind it. The fountain has remarkable historical significance. Originally created in France in the 19th century, it was designed by the French sculptor Jean‑Baptiste Jules Klagmann, whose work also appears in the Louvre and Luxembourg Gardens. The cast‑iron structure was produced at the Durenne ironworks and first displayed at the Great Exhibition of 1862 in London. It was later purchased by gunmaker and philanthropist Daniel Ross, who generously gifted it to the city of Edinburgh in 1869. The fountain was installed in West Princes Street Gardens in 1872, where it has stood ever since. After falling into disrepair over the years, Ross Fountain underwent a major restoration and was beautifully restored and re‑inaugurated in 2018, bringing its vibrant colors and intricate details back to life. The setting is absolutely gorgeous. Lush gardens, open lawns, and unbeatable views of the Castle. It’s one of the best spots in the city for photography, a peaceful stroll, or simply enjoying the scenery. A beautifully restored historic landmark in a breathtaking location. Highly recommended.

   Very beautiful and we had a great experience here. You can have a view of Edinburgh castle from here. That's a wonderful view. You can take a walk in the garden or rest under the trees and have a nice coffee or some street foods while enjoying this natural ambience.

   Gorgeous area with an amazing view of the castle in the background. You can walk this whole trail which runs parallel to the main road right by the Scott monument. Definitely could take your time and enjoy this area! Lots of people doing photoshoots as this was a great place to take pictures. At sunset the castle is completely illuminated and teal of the fountain really pops. Would definitely suggest to stop by when in Edinburgh!
