Nestled just south of Edinburghβs city centre, The Meadows is a sprawling public park loved by locals and visitors alike. It blends open grassy expanses with tree-lined paths and offers a range of recreational facilities, including tennis courts, croquet lawns, sports pitches, and the cityβs largest childrenβs play area. οΏΌ Rich History β’ Originally occupied by the Burgh Loch (also known as the South Loch), which supplied the city with water until 1621. The loch was drained in 1722, transforming the area into parkland with avenues and paths shaped by Sir Thomas Hopeβs designs. οΏΌ β’ The area was historically used for common grazing well into the 20th century. In 1827, it earned legal protection from development. οΏΌ β’ It holds a place in sporting loreβhost to Edinburghβs first football derby in 1875 between Hearts and Hibernian. Remnants of that legacy include the commemorative plaque near the former Whalebone Arch.

The Meadows in Edinburgh is pure magic during cherry blossom season. A pink canopy stretches across the park, and walking through it feels like stepping into a dream. Itβs peaceful, full of locals just enjoying the momentβno rush, no noise, just beauty. One of my favourite spots in the city, especially in spring.

Nice open space- lots of students hanging out enjoying the sun, playing guitars or sports. Some wrought iron benches along the paths. Loads of daffodils in early April and cherry blossoms come out around mid-April.

A huge park next to Edinburgh University, mega lots of paths, places to run, quiet place, atmospheric look by the number of trees and mega green lawn, characteristic in these areas. I recommend taking a walk or sitting with a book and coffee.

This was the longest queue of people I have ever seen. It was not a walk in the park, you needed patience and endurance. There were thousands and thousands of people pouring in thoughout the night. The love and respect for the Queen was clear to see. People of all walks of life and all backgrounds were there.

Beautiful park with views of Arthurβs Seat, the Crags and other attractions. Great for sitting in and having a picnic, especially during the summer.

Fancy frisbee, footie, rugby, a hang out with hundreds of students? The meadows is the place. People picnic here, have barbecues and it's right close to everything in Edinburgh. There's a cycle and walking path and they really are green green meadows.

Great for dog walking. During most days it wonβt be too crowded for running your dog around, unless the sun comes out and itβs closer to a weekend or holiday. Then expect to weave in and out of picnicers, bbqers and drinkers. Occasionally festivals and other events will also be on.
