I visited this Pets at Home store this evening and was absolutely appalled by the condition of the aquatic animals. The female betta fish tank was filthy — covered in a layer of black residue along the tank floor — and contained two dead fish that had clearly been there for quite some time. One of them was missing its tail, suggesting decomposition or distress from other fish. The male betta fish tanks were in similarly poor condition. When I asked a staff member about it, I was told that the tanks are “supposed to be cleaned every Monday” key word = supposed. I also asked to speak to a manager but was told there wasn’t one available — which is deeply concerning for an establishment responsible for live animals. The same staff member claimed that the tanks are “checked hourly for dead fish,” yet the state of these tanks and the decaying fish made it very clear that this is absolutely not happening. Either staff are being dishonest, or management is completely neglecting basic welfare checks. It’s vile to see this level of neglect brushed off simply because these are fish rather than cats or dogs. The Animal Welfare Act applies to all animals — and what I saw tonight amounts to animal neglect and abuse. This isn’t an isolated issue either. I’ve since seen other reviews describing the same disregard for animal welfare — including reports of rats being kept in small, filthy enclosures with no enrichment. Shameful.
We do use this place to buy stuff for our pets but on my latest visit I was horrified at the treatment of their rats. We have had rats and know what they need but these poor boys were in a cage that was far too small, they had next to no enrichment, were using their water bottles to climb on as not only was this one of the few things in their with them it was the only way they could get up and into their hammock. They were also fully grown and not babies so it made the space even less acceptable for them. The glass of the cage was also splattered with their own poo. Virtually no bedding for them hardly any hay for them to forage. When I asked the manager if he could at least put something else in the cage for them to climb and some more stuff for them on the base of the cage he refused said they were meeting the bare minimum care required and didn’t have to do more which tells you all you need to know. Shameful
I can say it's ok, sometimes the things I want to buy are out of stock. But besides that is ok.
Place is terrible I highly recommend not taking your pets here especially for a hair cut we booked our 2 dogs in and they claim to have message us about a cancellation but we did not receive it they booked our dogs in 2 weeks from then and we paid in full yet when we arrived to take our dogs in they told us they were cancelling again! Our dogs are in a bad state and will have to stay like that until we can book them into a different dog groomers. Very disappointed
Quiet when I visited, so staff were super attentive….. although I don’t doubt they are anything less when they are busier. Good selection of products . Managed to get everything I was looking for and prices weren’t ridiculous. Lots of parking available too.
Always get my dogs groomed here never a problem! Always fresh and cute! Staff always make a fuss and dogs like going in :)
The shop was well stocked with everything I was looking for puppywise. With really polite and knowledgeable staff. One was so helpful and saved me nearly £30 while another made aware I was further eligible for a free bag of food worth £10.
