Pokemon pre-release debacle. I joined a queue of around 15 people at 5am, at 8.30am the store opened, by 9am the system had crashed nationwide. With no real comms from the staff we were left waiting around. Around 10am a social media post was put up by smyths informing us of the issue (only and hour late). The manager in store then said the wait would be atleast another hour. That passed and still no update. At around 12.45 we were told no pre orders would be completed in any store (maybe 5 transactions took place all morning for pokemon pre release in store). In terms of comms from the team, I feel they kept us in the loop as best as possible and we're also left in the dark regarding the issues, so we're stuck between a rock and hard place. In terms of head office, what happened?? No contingency plan - you know how much stock you have nationwide and presumably could find out what had been sold before the crash, why not just allocate evenly across the stores or based on previous pre order history. Surely a business of this size would have someone thinking about contingencies? No effective comms with your stores No effective comms with your customers More updates on discord servers than Smyths. Also the fact some stores were able to get back online whilst others couldn't is really unfair on those who have waited hours at the offline stores, just to hear the stock is selling elsewhere and nothing can be done. This whole experience was a shamble and Smyths really need to reevaluate how they do pre release ordering. Will actively avoid Smyths moving forward and will look to go to independent shops.

We went in to get our pram and car seat and Hannah was so knowledgeable. She was able to answer every question we could think of and gave us some great advice!

My husband & I just popped in LWG store to look at the car seats. The assistant was very helpful & knowledgeable about the products and showed us, pn a demo carseat, how to fix/strap in the seat. I didn't get her name but she was early 20's with 2 dark French plaits. 5 stars

Came to the toy store because I wanted to see and hold the item because I'm bored of looking at pictures on Amazon. Wasn’t allowed to open box, even if purchased no returns accepted. As far as toy stores go, overpriced, underloved and zombie like staff. No soul left here. Bye

This is an amazingly well stocked store, with toys, games, bikes, scooter and more right across the age ranges. Lots of choice and a real ranges of prices and special offers. Although it was really busy when it came to payment we had no wait at all and with plenty of parking it's probably one of the best stores of this kind.

Exploring the toy shop with my 2 year old, when the security guard spoke to him inappropriately because he was riding a scuttle bug to try it for size which we were then told was ‘down the wrong isle’. I felt intimidated by the security guard who chose to approach my child and make him feel frightened and told off in a toy shop. I’m disappointed that this type of training and interaction is thought to be appropriate in a toy shop, which is supposed to be a magical and exciting experience for children. The signs say please talk to the staff and security with respect but that needs to work both ways, and they clearly need to be more child friendly.

Today I purchased a Silver Cross Wave tandem stroller from Smyths, Longwell Green. When I got it home, it was extremely stiff when connecting the seats and trying to tilt them from seated to lying position and back. So much so, that my 6yr old couldn't use it as intended. I took it back, with receipt, asking for an exchange, as I thought it might just be a batch or single item issue. The colleagues I spoke to insisted that they 'were all like this', even though, when i asked them, they responded they hadn't all been opened to check! (So how could they know this!). I was also told that they were stiff so little fingers wouldn't get trapped, but, the handle adjusted loose enough and so to did the collapse mechanism! I was also told it needed to be used under adult supervison, well obviously, but just to change the incline on the seats should be manageable by the child on their own (my child is 6, pushchair is from 3+). I insisted I would be happy with an exchange as I thought it might be a one off issue, I even had to suggest they write not exchangeable/returnable unless a manufacturer fault, on the receipt. At the end of the day, i would like to think customer satisfaction and loyalty came into a businesses customer service model, but Smyths Longwell Green really need to try harder. In the end, an exchange was issued, although a little begrudgingly. Low and behold, when i got the replacement home and built it, it worked fine!

Popped in yesterday after unsuccessfully trying to purchase Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Amazom. I got there just after 6pm. Unfortunately I was arriving at the time they were shutting. I spoke with a lady emptying the tills who said I could come in and purchase it. They had it in stock, it was cheaper too. I made my purchase, thanked them and apologised for keeping them back and went on my way. Great customer service from your staff. Thank you and have a happy prosperous New Year. Myles
