We ordered a seafood kottu and a chicken kottu. The seafood kottu was disappointing — there wasn’t much seafood in it, and what was included tasted like it had been previously fried. The flavour was not pleasant, and it didn’t feel authentic at all. We did not try anything else since we lost the appetite for food.
Tried Curry Hut last weekend with some Malayali friends, and we all agreed it’s the best place in Cardiff for South Indian style spice. The mutton curry reminded us of nadan curry from Kerala, rich with coconut and perfectly spiced. Their kottu roti is something different but still familiar, almost like Kerala beef fry with parotta mixed together. If you’re a Malayali missing proper heat and homely food, this place won’t disappoint. I've tried other places in Cardiff but by far this is the best Kerala food out there.
Very authentic food. We enjoyed the Sri Lankan cuisines such as polos curry, egg kothu, Idiyappam vegetarian kothu and pittu with kadalai curry. They were very delicious. The service was so prompt. Excellent hospitality. I highly recommend this place.
Just went this shop to eat, bunch of peoples are shouting all over the place. Very dissapointed about place management. Kids are on top of the tables... as a restaurant staff they should manage the situation to enjoy the evening without troubling other people. Tried to talk to the manager twise. He was already drunk and didnt even bother to talk with us. Very poor management and service.
Today I visited Curry Hut, a small, budget-friendly restaurant serving authentic Sri Lankan and South Indian cuisine.I tried a variety of dishes, and every single one hit the mark. The dosa, devil chicken, chicken rolls, and biryani are absolute must-tries — full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The atmosphere is simple and welcoming, and the prices are very reasonable for the generous portions you get. Whether you're craving something spicy, savory, or satisfying, Curry Hut is a great spot to treat yourself. Highly recommend this restaurant.
One of the most hyped Indo - Sri Lankan eateries in Cardiff. Heads up, it is absolutely amazing when it comes to certain dishes which lived up to their expectations , while some others were pretty awful. Will rate based on the items we ordered Starters: - Ulunthu vadai - Around 2.5£ for 2 nos - was decent - Samosa - tasted awful Veg: - Cheese chilli dosa - has a truck load of chilli and hardly any cheese (photo of the chilly leftover of the dish attached) - Paneer masala dosa - has an overload of paneer and not really masala in it Non veg: - Dolphin Koththu Porotta (Chicken) - Amazing - huge quantity, with a good mix of Chicken, milk, Porotta, green chillies and capsicums. This was amazing - Biriyani - This was amazing too, and had a good quantity - Rose Milk Sarbath - was good From this experience, we felt the Non vegetarian dishes are their best picks, and some items are not even worth trying. We also felt the place was understaffed and non manageable by the only person who has to manage all the tables with such a good crowd dining in. We spotted a couple of instances of where they messed up the orders too. Nevertheless, it’s a good place to hangout, and has the space to seat big groups. The place is also well decorated and has a good ambiance. The menu is also huge with a lot of items, vegetarian as well as non vegetarian, and drinks too. Some items especially in their desi beverages menu - are however, unavailable. The location isn’t far from the city centre, which is probably another reason why it’s different from other Indian eateries which all are located in the city centre/ city road. So my parents wanted to try this restaurant for a while now and they went for lunch but they were closed. So that meant it would be dinner was a go. This location was very busy lots of South Indians coming in to eat and once they came to eat they left and minutes later another group of people or couple would turn up. This is a good sign. We had a few vegetable curries, a fish curry, the chicken fry and dosa with mutton curry was all very good. Service was very good. I guess why I took a star off as some things were missing and I hope they have it for next time. The dosa was huge, the mutton curry was tasty and spicy, the chicken fry was delicious. The daal was nice and thick in texture and tasty. The eggplant curry was delicious my favourite. The fish curry sauce was nice but the fish flavour was a bit strong for me. The 1st time, we had beef kottu, veg kottu, pittu with Sothi, beef fry and prawn vade! It was delicious and I was able to get pics of it. This time round, had the beef kottu, chicken dolphin kottu, chicken fry and beef fry (unfortunately no pics). Absolutely loved the food! It was very flavourful. The spice levels were adjusted to our requirements and the owner was checking in on us to make sure we were happy with the meal. The portion sizes are generous and the prices are wallet friendly! Definitely a place to recommend for Sri Lankan food :)
The food is great, we tried the chicken biryani and the special biryani both of which were delicious. So were the fish cutlets. The mango lassi is to die for. The prices are reasonable, quantities are pretty good. The place isn't too crowded, even on a weekend. Service is timely and they seemingly maintain good standards of hygiene and sanitation.
