“Chicken Tikka Karahi was authentic. The chicken was well marinated meaning the flavours went inside the good quality meat and as a result it was very tender and moist. The spices were on point. The bindi was fresh and well cooked with onions, tomatoes and spices, so the vegetable was the right consistency, tender but not slimy. The rice was fluffy and delicate and the paratha mopped up the flavours. No alcohol which makes for a pleasant atmosphere although they will serve your own if you bring it, with no corkage charge. Highly recommend,”

“We have been going to the Shamrat now for over 10 years and it is by far the best. Do not let the area put you off!! The food is always amazing and the staff really make it even better. They will really look after you and meet any needs you have. We come here for any occasion and also often get a takeaway. Whenever eating in the take aways are constantly busy which shows really how good it is. They also do a Sunday buffet which is definitely great value for money!”

“Excellent! Picked up food from here last night and was very impressed, the service was excellent, with the staff being really friendly, polite and professional and the food was absolutely amazing... Easily one of the nicest Indian takeaways I've ever eaten! We'd originally tried to order with another Indian restaurant in the area and been told that they'd be over an hour wait, but these guys managed to get everything done in just over 20mins! Again, really good stuff, as the order was for a load of food (as we were having friends over), several mains, different rices and various sundries and they got it all spot on! Everyone was really impressed with what they'd eaten, there was a fair bit left and it was actually cheaper than the other restaurant anyway! I'm writing this review the following morning and the other thing I've noticed is that for the first time ever after eating Indian food, I've woken up not feeling really thirsty and without any stomach cramps! That might sound a bit weird, but this is something that always happens to me when I eat Indian cuisine and something I've come to expect, but strangely, not this time! I know this review goes on a bit, but I definitely think these guys deserve recognition for the great food and excellent service they provide and I'd definitely recommend them to anyone in the area looking for a good quality Indian takeaway! Edit: I've been here about a dozen times since first writing this review and it's still excellent. Well done guys, top quality food!”

“Booked a table for 6 @ 7.30 and our table was ready. Drinks, Starters & Main Courses All turned up on time and were delicious. I’d particularly recommend the Lamb Bhuna which came with a particularly well marinated lamb shank. The staff were extremely helpful & attentive and the manager was friendly and knowledgeable. There’s a reason The Empire is still popular after 30 years. Lots of fun and Highly recommended.”

The food was full of authentic flavor, the atmosphere was calm and relaxing, and the staff were exceptionally professional and well trained. “Had a 17 ppl party and they managed well I was sat next to 40 biker table they were loud but were a good neighboring table very polite. Staff were flat out trying to serve Food came in good time. Good room temperature but got hot quick due to lots of people there. Overall good experience Our waiter was polite the guy with beard very friendly. Definitely will visit again. “It's a takeaway so can't review the atmospheric. However, it's sparkling clean in the shop. We have had the Midweek special a few times and it's great value and very tasty. We don't like hot curry, so perfect for us as sweet, coconut flavored. And the staff are friendly also. Thanks guys.”

“Used to live in Llanhilleth 2012 Tamarind was our go to Indian. Since moving to Cardiff nothing has compared. Working in Abertillery yesterday I pulled by to pick up a cheeky curry on the way home. 13 years later, still the best curry house in south wales.”

“What a great restaurant. Been to the India Gate many times over the years I've lived around the area. Amazing quality Indian food that is surprisingly well priced. Recently I had the chicken tikka masala classic, with onion bhaji starter. Both amazing, sauce that came with the Bhaji was unusual but so so good. Table gets a serving of poppadoms that comes with delicious sauces and toppings Service staff are smartly dressed and efficient. Didn't have to wait for anything despite every table in the place being full. Atmosphere is cosy but professional. Only downside is you may need to book a table because they are always so busy due to their consistent quality through the years.”
