I went here on two nights, looking for something filling, so focused on the curries. The staff are very knowledgeable and great to chat to and can help you to choose. They’re lovely people and extremely helpful. The decor is gorgeous and the general atmosphere is really nice. The first night there were no issues with the temperature, but the second night, there was a definite draft which other guests also noted. It was a cold night outside and the restaurant sits inside a conservatory, so I can imagine it takes a lot to heat it. The duck Massaman curry tastes really good and I would recommend it. It’s rated two chilli’s but shouldn’t have any chilli rating. It’s really warming, has a great taste and is filling. The only thing I’d note was that the duck was a little tough, but that may just be the way duck is. The chicken Thai Green Curry should have three chilli’s on the menu. It’s far far hotter than the Massaman curry that has the same two chilli rating. The aubergine and broccoli were great choices for the curry, however there was barely any chicken to be able to label it a chicken dish and most pieces were tiny. The curry itself was quite sour. I couldn’t detect any saltiness from the addition of fish sauce. Fish sauce may have helped to offset the sourness and the heat of the curry, allowing me to finish it. Instead, I ate all the meat and veg and left the sauce. I understand that a Green Thai curry is one of the hottest, but this was so hot, I couldn’t eat the curry sauce. I’ve had excellent Green Thai curries elsewhere that have moderated the heat slightly to allow people to enjoy the flavour. Whilst this may not be completely authentic, it does allow someone to enjoy the dish. It was filling but wouldn’t recommend the dish to others. I’ve had much nicer Thai green curry elsewhere that contained more chicken and similar levels of vegetables. On value for money, I would say that the atmosphere and great staff are definitely worth the money. It’s also better value than the other restaurants based at the Celtic Manor. I would recommend eating here (but not the Thai green curry) if you have no transport into town or just want to try it. Remember to book. However, I am able to source similar or better tasting food for less money, near my home. This reduces the value for money for me. However, someone else who can’t source this type of food elsewhere, may find a greater value in the food for the price.

We visited The Pad last night for restaurant week at the Celtic. Having read some bad reviews I wasn’t sure on what to expect but we had a superb experience. the young lads serving Geraint and another young lad were very welcoming and professional… The menu we were served had variety and the dishes were absolutely delicious. I was personally a huge fan of the katsu pumpkin wow. Highly recommend, don’t be put off by the reviews.

Loved our experience at Pad, 2 adults and 2 young kids who had a few nice options given one is very fussy. The set menu was everything we love about Oriental food, amazing takes on prawn toast, beef rendang and my wife LOVED the chicken soup. Classy experience and a nice chilled atmosphere. Would definitely come again if we visit Wales.

I really don’t understand the poor reviews on here - we have dined here twice and both times have been exceptional. The service is fantastic - particularly Ming who is always helpful and very knowledgeable on the cuisine and how to best enjoy, and the woman who I assume is the supervisor (I think her name was Leanne) who despite dealing with some horrendously rude guests was still friendly and kept our section of the restaurant a little quieter after hearing we had had a stressful week. The food is very high quality and tastes superb although potentially some people find it a little spicy compared to usual British cuisine. The reality is it is part of the Celtic Manor Resort - it isn’t going to be cheap - so if you’re looking for a cheap night out head somewhere else.

I really enjoyed the starter and the manager greeted me to the table was lovely and polite. However things just went downhill from then. The side Asian Green Veg was just horrible - raw veg in the pot. The Sri Lanka veg curry was just as bad - again raw veg! I made my points known to the waitress as I did not eat most of it and asked for the bill. She said sorry but did not take anything off from the bill :( Still charged me absolutely everything... really don't want to complain to the manager. Regret to go there at all!!!!! Waste of my time and money.

Delectable. The food was truly unbelievable, I had the Korean Steak and it was throughly enjoyable. I loved the restaurant itself, the decor is asian inspired and spacious. The staff are so lovely and attentive and it’s not extortionately priced, I can’t fault it.

No wow factor. A very average meal in a very average restaurant. The menu clearly hadn't been updated for some time, the menu online also had cheaper prices than in the restaurant. Braised octopus wasn't soft, how it should be in a bao so was hard to eat. Very underwhelming experience for what is quite an expensive restaurant. Phó or Wagas would be better value for money.

We had an amazing experience at the Pad this evening. From the moment we got there we were made to feel so special. It was our 10 year anniversary and the members at the Pad made it extra special. From the complimentary champagne to beautiful card, chocolates and the overall service it will always be remembered. The food was delicious! A very big thank you to Kelsey for such exceptional service. Thank you for helping my husband to also present me with my gift.

Very tasty food. A nice blend of Eastern and Western dining experience. We had some lovely Japanese plum wine. Although it was too sweet for me, the Mrs loved it!
