Lovely old hotel, in a perfect location opposite Cardiff Castle, and walking distance to the train station/bus station and shops. Staff are really nice especially housekeeping. Everywhere is clean and tidy, even in the room. Shower was very powerful and temperature was great. Good WiFi in the hotel. Only downside was the lift not working and hasn’t for ages. This needs to be advertised before anyone books. And the mattress on the bed had dipped quite a bit on one side. But as I was on my own this wasn’t an issue for me.

A fallen angel more like. This place has been severely neglected to the point of everything having been removed or downgraded just enough so the place remains standing. The carpets are rancid. There is a bad smell all round the hotel from damp and musk. The rooms have no heating and have single pain and windows making it colder. The lift was broken and we were not told. The whole place needs a refurb but the owner seems satisfied allowing it to fall to disrepair in order to rince the location. There are many other places within reach which you could stay for a similar price with a much better standard and offer. The only saving grace was the staff. The staff were great but unfortunately work in a shell of the hotel it must have been in the past. Avoid if you can!

I stayed here with my partner for my birthday for a few nights, primarily for the nightlife nearby as the hotel is in a very good location if you’re after that, or shops, café’s etc. However, for the 4 days we were there, the lift was broken the whole time and didn’t look like it was in the process of being fixed, and i saw a review saying this from 2 weeks ago so clearly isn’t a priority to make the hotel fully accessible. So if you or someone from your group can’t walk upstairs, or you have a buggy, wheelchair etc this likely isn’t going to be a good place to stay as i doubt it’ll be fixed anytime soon. The floors in the hallways are very creaky, but the walls are thick enough that it’s not too much of an issue. There was also a strong smell of mold and urine around the hotel and in our room. We had a standard room which was relatively small which is fine, but only had one small window which didn't even have a handle to open?? View from the window was run down buildings and trash. No way of charging things next to the bed either which was a bit of a shame. Both our key cards ending up breaking by the second night and had to walk down 3 flights of stairs to get new ones. The staff are very friendly though, and none of this is negativity towards them. The building itself has a very beautiful interior and exterior design. All in all, if you just need a safe place to sleep but not spend much time in the room, this would be a good choice. But if you actually need a lift to stay here, or would like to stay in the room during the day, i wouldn’t personally reccomend this hotel.

Had a fabulous 2 night stay at this hotel. After initial hiccup (2nd floor + no lift + bad chest) this was resolved immediately and was put in a much larger closer room on the 1st floor. The staff couldn’t be nicer and more accommodating from the front desk to the cleaners to the housekeeping staff. Not modern but that suited me nicely. Brilliant location and more than value for money.

We travelled as a family of 4 (2 parents, 2 teenagers aged 17 and 13) and were staying one night. The staff on the front desk were very welcoming and the family room was like a palace - with two separate rooms in it: one with a superking bed and the other also very spacious with twins. We were not expecting so much space so were pleasantly surprised! The best thing about this hotel is its fantastic, central location, right in front of the castle and a stone's throw away from the start of the high street. Very close to the university campus also, so perfect location for the Cardiff Uni open day. Using the JustPark app, we planned ahead and booked parking in advance on Greyfriars Road which worked well for us, as we were travelling light. This was just a 3-minute walk away. Sadly we didn't get to trial the bar or food as we headed out for the evening (can recommend Pilgrim Pizza nearby!). The only negative was that our room on the top floor was far too warm, but this was mitigated by two fans placed in the rooms, and we opened the windows and turned the radiators down, which helped somewhat (we were visiting on a mild October day). All in all, an excellent stay. We definitely plan to return when we are next in Cardiff. This is a great hotel.

The Good: Location, value (we paid Β£39 pp for a family room of four with breakfast) one of the beds was comfy (others not so), clean linen, spacious family room. The Bad: On arrival the kettle was disgusting with old sugar papers and lots of orange stuff coming out when filled (always rinse your room kettle!!!), lumpy pillows, very tired room and general public areas. The Angel I have known for over 30 years, and she is a Grande Dame, but one now who should be retired. Too much money needs spending on her. Staff mixed - some amazing and others not so. View from room 224 was abysmal with the neighbouring room (non guest I imagine) with old food on plates visible in the window. Frost the glass rather than see the bones of the hotel (pipes and generally ugly). In the evening we used the stairs to go out and there were several young children on the mid landing with small toys everywhere. We have to pick our way over and through them. Not safe. I guess from one other encounter along with this one that the hotel is hosting refugees which is wonderful, but care needs to be taken when mixing long term residents with regular guests regarding safety and fire regs.

This is very good for a three star city-centre hotel with its own car park. It proved ideal to leave the car and walk to all the things we wanted see though there are plenty of buses or taxis or city-bikes if you want to go further afield. We opted for the dinner, bed & breakfast booking and standard of food was excellent throughout though there are plenty of other venues if you want to be more adventurous. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the room and facilities were spotless. Most of the windows are single-glazed so the management do point out that bedrooms can be pretty noisy overnight, so they provide free earplugs! We slept like logs on the comfy beds so our stay here was very enjoyable.

The Angel hotel sits in the city centre of Cardiff, so everything you need is less than 10 minutes walk away. making it a very convenient place to stay. the decor inside the lobby is very elegant and eye opening, it gives the place a very grand feeling. The rooms were well presented and had all the usual facilities, Tea/Coffee, TV etc. And the room was clean. Service was excellent in the restaurant in the morning, and the quality of the breakfast was very good, and tasted wonderful. Very good place to stay in Cardiff.

You really do pay for the name and location, my room was discounted because of a work event, but wasn't worth the price, very dated decor and the bed wasn't exactly comfortable, the fact your are right opposite the stadiums mean you are paying a ridiculous amount for a very average room, your better off staying in a travel lodge or premier Inn really. Staff are lovely though, and location just is great, close to the stadiums but also not far from Cardiff Central.

old fashioned hotel in need of some TLC in rooms. However, comfortable and surprisingly quiet, even looking over main road. Breakfast is one of the better in Cardiff. overall, bit pricey for 3* hotel.
