We came here for our nieces 18th birthday, we had the little bar to ourselves which was very nice the main bar looked good, and we would like to come back for a meal as we had some food provided which was really nice. Nice place to visit and we will be back again.

We stayed at the sportsman during a visit to friends who live nearby. We checked in and were greeted upon our arrival, we were given our keys, told about the door in case of late night returning and we went up to our room, the room was okay, a good size, a little dated IMO but it was good enough as we would only be sleeping there for a night, Breakfast the next morning was good, full English along with other hot bits on offer as well as cereal and juices, all in all a pleasant stay and somewhere I'd stay again.

Unfortunately the room i stayed in had damp patches on the ceiling, the ' wardrobe ' was an open rail at the side of the dressing table. The ceiling rose was broken, in the en suite the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall and there was paint on the shower tray. Not a pleasant experience.

My room had a nice bed and towels, however it was very noisy with both road traffic and the (not sure what you call it) flan on the outside of the building from the kitchen. My friend came to join me for breakfast, on the menu it stated £8.50 for non guest yet I was charged £10 for hers. Why? Plus all we had was tea, toast and boiled eggs. No offer of help to take my case up the stairs and I found this hard to do at my age. Will not be back

Popped in for a drink, we ended up having something to eat, lovely vegetable curry. Staff are really nice, we will be back.

One of the nicest establishments I've had the joy of visiting, asked barman what he suggested I should have for ales, suggested the salcombe ale, good choice that. Then my mate stupidly caught a splinter rubbing his gangly hands up and down the woodwork and one of the lovely bar ladies whipped out a pair of tweezers, to remove the piece of rouge wood out of his sausage like appendage 10/10 the sportsman is the best

Went on a Tuesday evening so it was pretty quiet but still a good selection. Be warned though, I got nachos for a starter and it would have been a good quantity for a main course instead!

Where to start I booked here for one night and oh my gosh what a dirty filthy old place to stay. I have to say one of the worst dirtiest places I have ever stayed. Booked in very friendly lady. Got to my room and there was a sign on the door saying. Has been deep cleaned. Well I was busting for a wee went to use the toilet the toilet seat was broken with bits of wee stained plastic sticking out the toilet had old dried wee and Pooh on it the sink was filthy previous occupants tooth past left in sink. Tooth paste splatter all over the mirror in bathroom and bedroom mirror. Mould on the shower head that bad I never used it. The shower head had not been cleaned for a very long time. The bath had cracks in it and there was a hole on the ceiling the drinks tray and kettle had not been cleaned they had tea and coffee drips all over them the carpet was not hoovered. I went to turn the tv on and had to pull the tv out as the Ariel was not in it. The back of the tv shelf and tv were thick with dust. Not been cleaned for at least a year !! The windows were filthy. And I had to open the windows as the room smelt musty. The only thing that was cleaned was the bed and sheets. Believe me I checked No way was I sleeping in filth. I went straight down to complain. The lady couldn’t apologise enough she sent head of house keeping to re clean my room. She came and found me after and could not apologise enough. To be honest I would of left and found somewhere else but there was no where else. I went back to my room the tv was still filthy and the carpet. But the bathroom had had a good clean. I never bothered using the bathroom my entire stay The place needs modernising It cost me 110 pound to stay for one night and I had booked the luxury room !!!!! More like nightmare room. The pub and food itself are lovely. But I really would not ever stay there again. EVER.
