Absolutely superb tour by Tony and Julian. It's an impressive and historic piece of engineering which is maintained in working order by a team of friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. If you're on the canal, I'd strongly advise mooring up on one of their open days as it was a fascinating morning and well worth the inexpensive entrance fee.

Super interesting and amazing engineering from a bygone era. Well worth trying to plan your visit for a (rare) day when it's open for tours.

Fascinating bit of engineering. The use of a second hand Tin mine pump back then is brilliant. A true green zero emissions machine.

We need to keep places like this running. An amazing feat of engineering from the early 1800s. The volunteers were lovely and knowledgeable, I definitely recommend a visit if you are down that way.

The River Avon was in flood today. Snow was falling plenty of people were braving the weather to walk on the beautiful Kennet and Avon Canal. The aroma from the narrow boats wood fired stoves made the experience even more lovely.

We went for a walk along the Kennet and Avon canal and had a look at the pumping station,it’s of the late Georgian period and started pumping in 1831,still to this day when it is in operation it takes water from the river Avon and puns it up 48ft into the canal itself. Sadly on our visit it was closed so we never got to see it in motion.
