We found ourselves completely charmed by Haughton Hall Hotel — its warm history, its gentle character, and above all, its lovely staff. Just a 15–20 minute walk from town and the nearby shops, the path there winds through nature, making even the simplest stroll feel peaceful. It truly made for a wonderful little escape to rest and recharge. With the recent and very positive change in management, the small team is still finding its rhythm, so there can be a little wait for housekeeping or at the bar. But their kindness, sincerity and eagerness to make you feel at home more than make up for it. You can also sense how well the staff get along with one another, which adds a warmth to the whole atmosphere. They’re attentive, friendly, and genuinely happy to help. And this is all without even mentioning the exciting upgrades they have planned!! From refreshing the interior to introducing an Asian-inspired twist to their already delightful English buffet. We’re truly looking forward to returning in the coming months. Thank you for such a heartfelt and positive stay.

The main old building has some amazing original features but the place as a whole has lost its sheen. The rooms and the breakfast is below the minimum standard that I like. The breakfast uses cheap ingredients that come dripping in oil, the beds aren't great and the bathroom could be cleaner but if you get a good rate and you are trying to economise then it serves its purpose. Also, the staff seem nice.

My boyfriend and I visited for a spa day with afternoon tea after my mom gave us a voucher for Christmas. First off, all the staff were super friendly and when I originally called up to book the date we wanted to attend, the lady I spoke to on the phone was really nice and helpful. I was told we had access to the facilities from 9am to 8pm which at first I thought was great. We arrived at the hotel and the spa facilities were in a small building opposite that looks kind of like an orangery The entrance part of the spa was a bit musty, there were stains on the carpet and armchairs, and the changing rooms also just seemed a bit musty but I find this to be the case with most spas, even higher end ones unfortunately The tiled floors as you come out of the changing rooms and into the pool area looked filthy, like they were covered in sand or built up minerals. The pool and jacuzzi also looked like they hadn’t had any maintenance done in a while, built up grime on the steps into the pool and I dread to think what the bits were in the bottom of the jacuzzi, which by the way, did not work and was not that warm so you could barely consider it a hot tub. The sauna was good, a bit small but the place isn’t very busy at all so that isn’t a problem, same with the steam room We arrived at about half 10, and we left the pool at 1 to get dressed for afternoon tea and we did not bother to go back. We also didn’t have towels for most of the morning as they had not received their clean towel delivery Afternoon tea was okay. There was no one else in the restaurant and there was no music or anything playing which made me feel a bit unsettled, especially when surrounded by 30+ dead lady birds that were all over the step of the door we were seated next to (as well as some alive ones of course). The tea was nice tea, my partner had juice as he does not like hot drinks which they didn’t charge us extra for which was good. The sandwiches were okay, we had cheese and crispy onions, egg mayo, and ham sandwiches, the scones were nice and served warm with a really nice strawberry jam, I wish the cream was proper clotted cream but it was fine regardless. The cakes were nice, particularly the macarons and the caramel biscuit thing Overall the experience was not worth the close to £200 my mom spend on the voucher, and unless they do some refurb and deep cleaning, I wouldn’t go here again

The only nice thing about this hotel is the outside grounds. When we arrived, the staff at reception looked tired, miserable, and gave very poor service. As soon as we walked through the corridors, there was a musty smell like a nursing home, which continued into the room itself. The windows were filthy, everything was outdated (but not in a charming way), and it all looked very dirty. Lights were flickering in the corridors and the room, adding to the unpleasant atmosphere. We left almost immediately. The so-called supervisor told us we could move to a “better” room, which we did look at, but the vibe from the staff was so unwelcoming that we didn’t feel safe or comfortable staying. He then informed us we would not be getting our money back. After driving 2 hours to get here, we ended up having to book a Premier Inn instead, which cost us a lot more money but we wish we could’ve booked there in the first place as we ended up being £90 down anyway. Honestly, this place is vile. The service is shocking, the building feels unsafe and unhygienic, and it’s absolutely not worth the risk. Avoid this hotel at all costs.

Most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on. I was hurting for days afterwards. Key cards didn't work properly - had to keep resetting/replacing multiple times a day! First day when I dropped off my dad to check in (i was returning to join on a different day), their car park company fined us £100 because they were not clear that drop offs needed to register the number plate. Communication is slow - probably due to understaffing? Unwelcoming exterior when you first turn up, even noticed a broken window; looked a bit dodgy but when we went in it seems like it was once nice and maybe they just don't have funding now. I also accidentally left my headphones there and all evidence suggests that their team has just thrown them out. Sure, my own fault that I forgot them, but I don't think it's acceptable to not put something like that into lost property. Oh and breakfast was not good, hardly any options and as someone who doesn't eat meat, I didn't trust the way they had laid out the veggie hot breakfast options to be kept separate from meat options. The only redeeming factors here is that the staff were nice and the spa/pool was alright. I can see why people who just visit the spa area don't give bad reviews; that is fine. But I would never even consider staying here overnight again. The bad significantly outweighs the good so I think that 1 star is the appropriate rating.

We stayed here for a spa day and night. The room was really lovely and huge. Bath products were really nice. Had a lovey bamboo back massage and spent time in the swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. Our evening meal and breakfast was lovey staff were very attractive. Would go again.

Absolutely fantastic place! If you are looking to book a stay, meal or event I would highly recommend! The staff are fantastic and cannot do enough for you! I have arranged 3 Christmas lunches for large groups here and each year the food is just incredible and all the diners have the most wonderful time! The food is just consistantly good every year! Amazing grounds, facilities and the hotel is full of character.

Hidden gem! Classic hotel oozing with character. You will find this former fine Georgian Manor House in the Shropshire countryside, sat in its own grounds. There are a variety of rooms to suit most pockets including some suites overlooking the lawns. Food here is always to a very high standard. I’ve eaten breakfast, lunch and dinner here on a number of occasions and everything is delicious. Staff are really lovely, nothing. Is ever too much trouble and there is always a genuine smile from them all. I stay quite regularly when working in the area. Having tried other hotels, I always return due to the comfort, value for money and all the above!

Turned up expecting a lovely spa day. The facilities for chilling out are non existent and the changing rooms are very basic and not very clean reminded me of school changing rooms. Non of the lockers we tried were working. No slippers were provided even though the literature states they are. The pool area was nice but a lack of loungers, there are 4 which were all taken. The other seating in the pool area was old dirty and uncomfortable. The jacuzzi was covered up so assume not in use. We were so put off we didn’t go to the steam room. No facilities for a glass of anything except for tea/coffee which has to be taken in the reception area. The only plus was that the robes were clean and fluffy. We arrived at 10 and departed hastily at 10.30. It’s a shame because the staff are very pleasant. I would have reviewed this experience (or lack of one) as zero but there’s no opportunity to give lower than a 1.
