Popped in the Royal yesterday on a trip over from England and what a friendly pub with a cracking pint of harp. Thank you to the lovely people in there for making us so welcome.
I was told by several people to avoid this bar and Sandy Row all together. They're apparently not welcoming to foreigners. When I walked into the bar, they immediately asked where I was from, which I replied to being Belgian. Then, all of them gave me a handshake. It turned out to be the friendliest bar I've been to thusfar and was invited to hop back in the next day. Also, the prices are half of what they are in other places. I highly recommend this bar!
Visited last Weds early evening - really good Guinness, was one of 3 pubs I went to that evening and Guinness here was easily the best. Really liked the Alex Higgins mural and other sports related memorabelia.
It was my first time in Belfast, and the Royal Pub, which was opposite my hostel, was the best pub my friend and I had ever been to. Great Guinness, awesome people who were eager to chat and high-five. Last night we caught up with Champ Crock's party, an amazing atmosphere. Thank you all for your hospitality, it was a pleasure.

Great cheap pub, very friendly
The Royal Bar is one of the best bars in Northern Ireland, you are always assured of a friendly welcome, the staff and all the patrons are top notch, once you frequent the Royal you will always want to go back.
It is a friendly pub with a jukebox. The walls are depicting the memory of the famous snooker player Alex Higgins who died in the nearby building. Unfortunately they accept only cash (September 2021)
