Quite possibly the worst experience of staying in a hotel in Europe. 1. Wrong Google maps coordinates, no signage at the gates or the front of the property and it's been used as accommodation for many years. I wasn't sure if I was trespassing on someone's land. 2. Interior smell, while understanding it's a working farm, I could get over the smell of the general areas but in the room we opened the windows once and once only to be met by a tidal wave of dog excrement. The stench was eye watering. 3. View was over the back part where said dogs were housed, at least 6 that we could see moving amongst the heaps of dog poo, barking at the slightest noise. 4. Sleep - non existent, we slept in ten minute intervals due to the never ending barking and growling. This happened all throughout our sleep. 5. Room looked good, nice period features but as it was hot we couldn't open the windows due to the stench, we had to sleep in a smelly, room that had flies already living there. No fridge and the TV didn't work so not good at all to relax. 6. Bathroom is absolutely stunning but crucially it's in a separate room outside of your room. To finish, location is good, landlady was pleasant but my goodness I think I would have preferred to sleep at the airport because at least there I would actually get some sleep. Avoid if possible, £90 to hear a dog orchestra that was way out of tune was not something I thought I'd be writing about but something I want others to see.

This was a pleasant farm with comfortable rooms and an immaculate bathroom. The host was very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast lovely.

Beutiful house with a clean and well furnished room. Large rear garden and peaceful surroundings, 10min cab ride to the airport. Landlady was very helpful and accommodating (late arrival due to flight delay). Overall a very pleasant stay and would definitely book again.

Very warm welcome! The bed was really comfortable and the location near the airport makes it easy for arrivals or departures. The taxi service suggested by them also got us where we needed to be on time!

We enjoy staying at unique places and tend to avoid chain hotels. By all we read The Crooked Stone House sounded perfect. We were fully aware that it was a working farm with animals. We have enjoyed other accommodations on farms and it has been wonderful. I did personally send the owner an email inquiring if the rooms were kept animal free. My husband has a lung disease and animal hair and dander affects this. The email went unanswered. We were a little unsure if we were approaching the right address since there was no signage. Walking up to the house there was an old car on the side of the driveway with two dogs housed inside. We walked into the open front door where a lot of debris blew in and there was a small table with business cards so we were then confident we were in the correct place. We waited and called out a few times and then a lovely girl came down. She chatted with us a bit as we waited for the owner, Primrose. We told the girl of our concerned as we immediately smelled the strong dog odor and my husband could already feel the effects. We did noticed how unkempt the downstairs was and our concerns grew. As we waited for the owner, the girl even offered for us to wait outside in fresh air. Since it was before check in we said we would go for lunch. After we left my husband started have breathing difficulty from only the short time we were in the house. We decided it best not to stay. We were also concerned about food preparation as the areas we saw indicated low standards for cleanliness. We wrote Primrose and explained why we needed to cancel.....again the email went unanswered. Since we booked on Bookings.com we requested Primrose to waive the fee. She did quickly reply this time with a NO. We accepted that and told her to consider our payment a donation to possibly use it for a deep carpet cleaning. To be fair, we did not see the upstairs rooms which may be lovely, odor, hair and dander free.

Awful experience with this place. Didn't even make it into the house as we turned up and knocked the front door for ages and nobody answered even though we had stated in our booking the time we would be arriving. We left and drove around a while thinking maybe if we came back later there would be someone there but it was the same when we came back. I rang the number numerous times but no-one answered the phone. They advertise on site parking which is a run down garden with broken washing machines and filthy mattresses strewn throughout it. I eventually got through to a lady and explained what had happened. She was really nasty to me. I have no issue with animals but when we were at the door there was 7 dog's going crazy at the front window. I paid £80 upfront for this stay and didn't even get inside the front door .

We stayed here in 2018 the night before an early flight. We had such a lovely time. Primrose was so welcoming and we felt right at home. The room was beautifully decorated in a traditional old farmhouse style. Shared bathroom that was also beautifully decorated. Will definitely stay again if we are in the area

We had an horrible night. We reserved a night before an early flight and a think it’s the worse place to go. The house was durty and smell really strange, certainly because of the ten dogs in the house. In the morning, we did not find the owners for breakfast. We decided to leave because we were scared to be late for our flight, and finally the woman told us that she didn’t wait for us (despite of the reservation) and that it will be easier for her if we take the breakfast at the airport. She even didn’t apologize. The worse experience in a hostel, we really didn’t feel safe in this house.
